I have been shopping at Hey Betty for, so far as I can figure, at least 20 years. I credit it and its owner with inspiring in me a life-long love of vintage clothing. Unlike Pittsburgh's second-hand stores, it doesn't hawk costumey kitsch. Rather, the owner continually curates a wide selection of true mid-century attire - the things that everyday people wore every day in the 40's, 50's and 60's. The clothing and accessories he carries are sometimes pushing 70 years-old (if not more) and yet nearly everything he has on the racks remains in beautiful condition. The shop itself is small, and decked out from floor to ceiling in mid-century goodies. Hats, jewelry, shoes, coats, umbrellas, gloves - heck, even ruffled panties - are among what Hey Betty has to offer, all displayed in such a way that you kind of want it all at once so you apartment can look just like the shop. Or, maybe that's just me :). At this point in my life, and with hey Betty as part of my inspiration, I've shopped vintage stores all over the world and for me it still tops the list in terms of quality, charm and pricing. I am so glad I live in a city that is home to a store like Hey Betty. It...
Read moreWent here looking for a few wool sweaters but found some amazing furs. I've been to a lot of cities (LA, NY, Chicago, etc.) and this shop has one of the best selections of furs I have ever seen. The pieces are in pristine condition like they were never worn and the prices are amazingly low! My favorite find was a two piece cashmere suit with a fox collar. The snitching is very neat and skilled and the fabric are in excellent condition. The cashmere is buttery soft and the collar is still fluffy and full despite the age. I had to leave before I tried to buy the whole store ha ha. Highly recommend and will definitely be back with my family. I noticed a lot of the coats were from old Pittsburgh stores which I just love because that you can't easily find online or in other cities. The owner was super nice and knowledgeable about the material and his dog was...
Read more"Hey Betty" more like "Get Out Betty". The clothes were smelly and unwashed and this is coming from someone who shops at thrift stores on the regular. The staff were rude and seemed to follow us around. Plus, there was an dog in the store that appeared to have an eye infection. They need to clean up there act! Response: No in fact, I do not work at a competitive retailer. I was reviewing your store in comparison to the more upscale thrift stores in the area such as "The Avalon Exchange" and "Clothes Minded" that as I said I shopped at on the regular. I apologize that you found my review unnecessary and rude. Perhaps my expectations were too high for your store. For now on I will be sure to stick to stores that I know can meet and exceed my...
