Yesterday, I had a horrible experience at Giovanni's Pizza.
I was visiting a friend at Mercy Hospital, and afterward, I walked toward 5th Avenue to catch a bus downtown to eat. When I approached the parking lot next to Giovanni's Pizza, a woman approached me and asked if I could buy her something to eat. I said, yes, and we went into Giovanni's.
I cannot believe how cold hearted and cruel the person at the counter was to this poor woman. She asked for a small pizza, and he asked, "four slices?" She asked how many slices are in a small. He said, "four slices." His tone was annoyed and condescending already. She said that's fine and ordered her pizza. I asked if she wanted to get a drink because we had discussed that on the way in. She said yes. He refused to move so he stood in between her and the cooler, glaring at her. I said, "I think you have to pick from the cooler," pointing behind him. She asked if the only size tea (maybe it was Pepsi) was a 2L. He said yes and was obviously becoming super agitated by this point. She said, that's fine. As he rung up the drink, he spit out, "Of course it's fine when it isn't your money." I handed him my card, hoping to pay and wait outside and leave, because it was MY money and it WAS fine. She asked if she had done something wrong. That's when he flipped and began yelling about how he's sick of her asking for money outside his shop (he said "you" so I don't know if he meant her specifically or panhandlers generally), cancelled the order, thrusted my card back to my hand, and said he wouldn't sell us any food. Essentially, he kicked us out because I tried to buy a homeless woman a meal.
I can't really communicate how hostile he was toward us. I do not know if this man is the shop owner. He certainly positioned himself as such (calling it "my shop"). I should have asked his name, but my mind was concentrated on distancing myself and this woman from an enraged person and finding her something to eat if he wouldn't serve us.
To be honest, I expect more from local businesses in regards to caring about the communities within which they operate and treating each customer or even each person like a HUMAN BEING. I won't say I will never eat there because I believe in second chances, but this behavior was appalling, and until it is addressed appropriately, my conscious does not allow...
Read moreMoved here from seattle recently. We are pizza people. My fiancée and I that is. We try any new pizza places we find. We want to find that one that is set apart from the others. This review is for the Giovanni's on fifth. Not the others they are copies in name only. We usually start with a pizza of said restaurant's largest size. With just plain pepperoni and cheese, because c'mon. If you cant get that right why even try lol. Then we see how the flavors of toppings taste, along with how many are given how good does the crust taste, pizza sauce flavor/amount. Then if they are good we try other combos to see if they have a "specialty" something others may not have. Our favorite in seattle was pagliacci's. Out here in pittsburgh and surrounding areas even cities sometimes. We believe Giovanni's has the best pizza around. I come in there so often they know me by name when i call in. Our personal favorite pizza here is the extra large pepperoni, sausage, cheese is automatic. Then we add parmesan on the whole pie. It is great. We always arrive to pick up the pizza right as it comes fresh out of the oven.
If you havent been here yet. You'll have to go there at least once. it is a...
Read moreI ordered a cheesesteak hoagie there were several pieces of gristle very hard gristle within the meat not to mention that I choked and gagged on a piece The size of a dime. This hoagie was terrible. It was dripping with mayo also. They went totally downhill. Cheap steak!
My total order came to $32 and some change I handed the driver $40. He gives me back six dollars and change pulls off. I stood there baffled like what just happened I’m not that great in math, but I know I didn’t get all of my change. There’s no point of calling. The owner Fiorina is not gonna do anything to make it right. She will stand there and look at you like you’re insane. I did take pictures . It’s pretty disgusting.
This is my fourth bad experience I will stick to Pizza Milano for now on in this area. They are more customer service friendly. Very disappointed, dissatisfied and totally turned...
