Please hear me out... I was a middle school teacher for 6 years, and I worked as a server at different restaurants for 10+ years. I'm 31 years old. I've lived in Pittsburgh for 2 years now. Everyone I've met here, (for the most part), has had such great hospitality. However, my experience in this place has been the TOTAL opposite. I'm not staying at the hotel; I only wanted to come have a drink at the bar, (The Tap Room). Although our server was very friendly and hardworking, there was a different server that I had an encounter with. He was very rude, and was pretty much telling me to get out of his way. The place I was standing was where the (very irritated) bartender asked me to come stand/order. It felt very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I decided to go to the hotel lobby and find a restroom. Unfortunately, I had to have a hotel key to use the restroom. I asked a sweet young lady, (possibly named Candace), to help me find a restroom. She was very hospitable and friendly. After using the restroom, I felt too uncomfortable to return to The Tap Room. I decided to walk outside and get fresh air. While I was admiring the city lights, I decided to take a selfie of myself with the tall beautiful buildings. It was at that time that the door worker/car parking worker told me I wasn't allowed to take photos because of his private parking customers. Altogether, it's quite an unwelcoming...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend were staying at the Omni hotel and it was absolutely amazing until I touch the tap room. The African American host that was 5ft 7 and bald was absolutely rude. There was 3 open tables and no one even said hi to us at the door, we thought it was just because it was “busy” but clearly wasn’t … The waiter was clearly just ignoring us and the couple behind us. The couple behind us after at least 5 mins finally stepped up and asked the waiter “hey are we able to sit down the people in front of us have been here for awhile”, the waiter then look at the couple and walked away… I think this guy was just having a bad day but this was not acceptable to me and the other couple. Waited for over 10mins at this point and left, don’t believe me watch the cameras… I travelled all the way from Canada for a weekend here and this was an absolute disappointment. This man needs a talking to...
Read moreWow. This place has declined quickly. Once one of my favorite spots in Pittsburgh, it's now on my list of "once great...now gone." I would go to The Tap Room maybe two or three times a year when I was in the mood for a serious drink in a quiet, nostalgic atmosphere. Time was when the bartenders were knowledgeable, professional and friendly (bow ties and vest). The atmosphere of the room was a throw back to an earlier time, warmly lit, cozy and quiet. Very classy in an old fashioned way. When I stopped in recently, I found it had transformed to a typical Pittsburgh sports bar. Hey. I like those too, but they can be found anywhere. It was loud, crowded and the new bartender was rude and clueless. He had no idea how to make a pretty basic cocktail. Another hidden Pittsburgh gem gone for good. ...
