My wife, daughter and I went into Sweetie pies for lunch today and were so offended by our waitress that we left before ordering- which is a shame because it smelled great in there. we arrived around lunch time and when we asked questions about the menu the waitress ( blonde curly hair probably in her late 50s) informed us that "its not breakfast time". no problem. I then asked if it would be possible for them to make a pancake for my one year old as she would most likely not eat any if their lunch options. I was then informed again " its not breakfast time" as she rolled her eyes at me. she then went on to explain that "it's not like its 5 or 10 minutes after brunch. you're a full 30 minutes late. fine. I have no issues with your policy, but if you could have been anything other than clearly irritated that I asked a simple question and didn't have what was quite literally the most condescending tone to your voice I had ever heard I would have been OK with it. my wife immediately spoke up and wanted to leave and I agreed. it is possible to inform your customers that you're unable to make a pancake to my one year old without acting like I'm a pain in your ass and talking to me like I'm a child. it is not my fault that you're stuck in a waitressing job when you should be retired. we were so disappointed. the food smelled amazing and everyone else there was kind and welcoming. it was truly a pity that one crotchety old lady could ruin the experience of someone who just moved to the area and had a couple questions. a simple " I'm sorry we can't do that" would have been fine but since you chose to take your personal misfortune out on me I thought I'd let everyone else know how condescending and rude you were to us. its not my fault that your life is so awful that you feel entitled to treat strangers like garbage. I'm sure the food is great but this lady needs to retire or find another job because clearly she cannot be inconvenienced...
Read moreI honestly do not understand why majority of people LOVE this place.
Yes, it has a great location and yes there are some good things about it like the pies and the homemade bread, with their special olliliberry jelly, but this place is waaayyy overrated in my opinion.
I am a local and have two littles (3 and 1) and I thought after years of choosing to not go here (pre- kids mind you) because of the same feelings I'm having now, I thought I would give it another chance. I won't make the same mistake again and will not be returning to waste my money.
-The patio is desirable, until you sit and the flies are out of control and then food comes and so do the bees. -The highchairs do not fit under the table so the kids made a huge mess cause you couldn't bring them close enough to them to eat themselves without a mess. -The waitress put the hot plates of food right in front of my one year old and he of course touched it and burned his fingers. -The coffee tastes (and looks) like water and is self serve so I couldn't even refil if I wanted to without completely leaving the kids unattended, as it is inside. My poached egg was basically hard boiled The kids scrambled eggs were overdone and has the scrapings off the pan of burnt eggs. -ALL OF THE FOOD WAS COLD, including the toast which wasn't even really toasted, and was the only thing I was really looking forward too as I said before was good here. Not this time.
I packed up what was gonna be later edible and asked for check 5 min after getting food cause the bees were so bad and the kids were freaking out.
Now obviously this is just my experience and my opinion, but as stated before this place is way overrated and do not see how they are...
Read moreThis used to be the best breakfast place in all of the Sacramento area. Since it changed hands (we've still not seen the new owners), a lot of the staff that used to work here is gone. Only one of the staff smiles anymore. They're always hustling here, not because they're always busy like they used to be, but because they're not efficient and I'm always hearing them apologize to customers. They're moving so fast, I often see them run into each other and they have no time to exchange words.
We used to love this place and want to see it succeed, but we've noticed the pricing has jumped on a lot of the menu and though the inside got a paint job redo because of a burst pipe earlier in the year, the decor changes aren't warm and it doesn't make it feel like home anymore.
You can expect a wait on weekends, but during the week when we used to see it hopping, not so much now, sometimes up until 10am during the weekdays. There were barely any pastries on display for purchase. It used to be a strong point. We have no idea if their chef that used to make killer pastries and cakes is still there, or not.
I wouldn't know because this morning, we wanted to celebrate election day.Though we only ordered two sides of potatoes, apple juice, and an apple turnover with coffee, I never received the apple turnover, the potatoes were lukewarm and tasted like they were nuked from the frozen section at the supermarket. My coffee was lukewarm as well. They took the TreeTop apple juice back and exchanged it for apple cider (from Apple Hill, expected from this area, one would think).
The experience was so poor, I felt the need to revise this review. Sadly, I had to downgrade from...
