Update on 1/10/21 : Owner, and the main Chef saw my complaint and appreciated the feedback and wanted to make up for it, and told me next time I come they will make me an amazing penne alla vodka. They actually carefully considered my words and went to investigate what I was talking about and found the issue and immediately changed the recipe. They know me because I do a lot of door dash deliveries for them, but they do have very good customer service and treat their customer very well, and actually consider their customers feed back as you see, which is unlike many other dining establishments. Anyways, I came back and they did not disappoint at all. It was literally the best penne al vodka I had in Florida without a doubt! The pasta had the most amazing, and flavorful vodka sauce. In fact, it was almost as good as NYC which is where I am from and where I acquired most of my vodka sauce expertise from. So if you want to be treated like gold, experience over the top customer service with great vibes, and want amazing food made from scratch which always has fresh ingredients you better come here!
(On 11/10/ 20) Pizza was delicious but pasta was awful. I ordered Penne alla Vodka and the noodles were undercooked and the sauce, please don't get me started with the sauce! The sauce was decent at first, then started getting bitter and bitter as you continue to eat it. Then you start to taste an alcohol like after taste to it. I understand vodka sauce, which is the sauce used in this pasta, is actually made with the liquor vodka but you don't actually taste the vodka, well you are not supposed to. The only two hypothesis i came up with to why that could be is that the chef did not cook the sauce thoroughly because if he did it would have eliminated the vodka liquor taste completely, or he used too much vodka liquor in preparing it. I have had penne alla vodka for a very long time especially being a native new yorker from staten island, but this an absolute first! Never in my life has my penne alla vodka ever taste like actual vodka liquor which is definitely not a good...
Read moreFirst time here and have heard good things about it. This is tucked in the corner of the shopping plaza at the SE corner of Broward and University.
I ordered the pumpkin cream soup to start (I made sure to ask if it was sweet because I don't like sweet unless it's a dessert). It was a delightful, delicious, and creamy pumpkin soup with a touch of cheese throughout. I did add a bit of salt midway and I preferred it with the salt added (which isn't a bad thing because many people don't like salt and it's an easily added flavor). This soup is a fan favorite that has been added to their daily menu and is no longer a special.
For my meal, I ordered the Risotto Fruta Di Mare which is a special and not available every day. It was creamy with LOTS of fish. The shrimps were not skimpy and plentiful, along with the class, mussel, and calamari. I didn't realize it would be so creamy and I normally don't gravitate to creamy, but I enjoyed it. I know my husband and daughter will LOVE it because they enjoy the creamier dishes.
I found out that my "server" was Deisy, the Colombian owner who loves wine and Italian food. She will not serve anything on her menu that she personally doesn't like and I found this to be true when I asked if her French onion soup was made with Swiss cheese. She said, "No, because I don't like Swiss." I immediately felt connected, because, I too, don't like Swiss and I love wine!
Through more conversation, I found out that on the last Wednesday of every month, she "brings in" different wines and does a "Wine with Deisy" pairing with the different meals. I will be doing this!!
And although I was already taken with her and her restaurant, I overheard her interaction on the phone with the take-out customers and it was the same bubbly and cheery personality.
This is a wonderful, hidden gem and I can't wait to come back with Steve and Izzy (and anyone else who wants to join us).
Note...it's beer...
Read moreWe discovered this little gem of a place - IL Baretto Ristorante- when my husband took me there for my birthday last November, and we were absolutely blown away by the food. Since then, we’ve returned several times, and each visit has been just as delicious and memorable as the first.
IL Baretto is a small, intimate restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The waitstaff are always lovely and attentive. If you’re a fan of authentic, well-prepared Italian cuisine, this spot is a must-visit.
They offer something for everyone on the menu- even pizza (which I haven’t tried yet but definitely plan to!). My personal favorite is the “make your own” pasta dish. I always go for spaghetti (perfectly al dente) with their incredible Fra Diavolo sauce (a spicy red sauce with just the right amount of heat) paired with either shrimp or meatballs. The flavors are bold and balanced, and the pasta is always spot on.
Let me not forget the garlic rolls, truly the best I’ve ever had. They’re unlike anything else and are absolutely addictive!
My husband has many favorites here… one of them is the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, and it’s outstanding. The chicken isn’t just tossed in - it’s thoughtfully prepared, beautifully seared, and packed with flavor. Every dish here shows a real attention to detail, from the ingredients to the presentation.
If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. IL Baretto is the kind of place you keep coming back to - and one you’ll be recommending to everyone you know. Trust me, you...
