We live in the north land and spent a while deciding if we should get a membership, a huge part was for the pool and slide for our kids. We decided it’d be great to have. The first day we went with our kiddos, we noticed the sprinklers and the pool were off. Even tho they advertise it.
We then asked when the slide would run, and they said it’s permanently turned off. Not a huge deal, but should be disclosed in the tour and new membership details. That was a big part for us.
We were told then that we could go to the other platte city one- they have a slide. So today we intentionally called and asked what time the slide was on. The Facebook page, website, and app all said 1-130p (a whopping 30 mins). But good enough for us. We went above to call front desk and have them confirm bc we know staff shortages effect it. The front desk said yes it would be open. So we picked platte city to take our kids to based on the slide being open instead of the north kc one. We got there, and the lifeguards unapologetically said they wouldn’t be opening today bc of staff shortage.
We then let the front desk kindly know, hey it sounds like the information that’s shared over the phone isn’t correct , and they deflected and said you have to come here and ask the lifeguards when you arrive if it’ll be open. And that it was our fault for not checking with life guards and that the front desk has nothing to do with it. (Even though they’re about 12 feet away from each other).
Just maybe a suggestion: Put that info online or loudly advertise that way. Could even say only when staff if available. We completely understand not being able to run it, but it’s very hard to hold grace for staff when we went out of our ways and to confirm it was open only for it not to be. Or at minimum don’t have it on the schedule and then open when you can. And certainly don’t have the front desk tell you it is open when it won’t be.
Thanks for a clean and safe...
Read moreThis community center is essential to the citizens of Platte City and the surrounding area. This review is not to degrade the YMCA, but to start a conversation and bring awareness to the mismanagement of this branch by the YMCA GKC system. Unfortunately over the last several years the decline of the Platte City YMCA has been evident and worrisome as the same steps that led to the closure of the KCK, Raytown, Blue Springs, and Independence Y's are being repeated.
Year around, you will find limiting hours of pool availability, staffing issues, maintenance closures of equipment/amenities for months on end.The Y’s that closed had declining membership, rising operating expenses and a significant amount of deferred maintenance. Only time will tell what happens to the Platte City YMCA but the opening of One Life Fitness on Barry Road could cause some balance sheet problems for...
Read moreDO NOT GO TO PLATTE COUNTY NORTH YMCA. Handle interactions with the public terribly. and their “coaches” who are on the gym floor have no idea what they are talking about. i was asked to leave today because one of their “coaches” asked me to take my ugg CLOSED TOE shoes off which i had already asked a member of their team about and was cleared to wear them and i told him that i wear them everyday. He then repeated himself and told me they weren’t allowed on the gym floor and i needed to leave. so i repeated myself and told him “i wear these here everyday.” he said “okay then” walked away and went and told his manager that i was being aggressive, raising my voice at him and refusing the rules. not a good place to take ur family or...
