I've wanted to try more of the newer places to eat near the TBK sports center. Since I had time for lunch off of work today, I decided to stop in to L&B Gyros for a quick bite.
There isn't much differentiating the space that L&B Gyros occupies from the others in the area. It has the same black, industrial ceiling supports (i.e., no drop ceiling), exposed HVAC, and accent lighting throughout. The floor is similarly spartan, consisting of simple concrete slab and sealant with nothing else adorning its surface. None of this is included as criticism, however; the space was clean both in appearance and hygiene. Also, I like the industrial look of no drop ceiling with exposed HVAC components.
There was no wait when I got there and subsequently got my order placed quickly. I opted for a hamburger (wasn't feeling like a gyro at the time) with fries during this visit. Within 5 minutes I had my food and proceeded to begin consuming it.
I really enjoyed the french fries. They were of the straight cut, slightly battered variety and were crispy on the outside with still fluffy interiors. Definitely something I'd come back for again. I also enjoyed the hamburger - not something I'd write home about, but it was a solid burger.
I want to come back at some point to try one of the gyros. This is a neat location - I don't have much other reason to visit here than for food on the way to work, but I've enjoyed stopping by here and the other businesses on Competition Drive this far. Thanks for being a great new place to eat...
Read moreHello, welcome to the reviews. You’re probably here because you’re debating where to eat and you may be surprised there’s such a highly reviewed place that you’ve never heard of in the Quad Cities. If this is you, let me urge you to take the leap and try this new, family owned, restaurant!
I’m not from here, just visiting, and I’m so glad I stopped. I’m a big Gyro guy, and these things exceeded my expectations. Everything was fresh, hot, and perfectly seasoned! The Tzatziki sauce was well balanced, and complimented the meat and veggies perfectly!
Also, the fries were bomb!! They have that kind of battered feel, with great flavor. A definite plus!
Moral of the story, trust the high google review. The owners were behind the counter, not only caring about making quality food, but making sure the customers felt welcomed and understood their passion for making good food.
I’m literally just in town for the holidays, have no connections to this place, and if I’m compelled to spend 15 minutes writing a review in favor of this place, you’ve got to trust me that it’s worth a stop.
I’ll be back next time...
Read more5 star review if food was priced honestly. This was a $7 meal. But since it cost $15, here is a review of a $15 meal. Reheating pre-sliced gyro meat on a flat top will only dry out the meat further. At least add water and steam it. Maybe take the extra time to dice tomatoes instead of making large chunks. How about a drink that is more than 5oz? Yes, the larger cups cost you more, but you are charging plenty so at least TRY to be worth it. Homemade sauce you claim... very likely is as no packaged sauce would be so utterly flavorless. Salt is fairly cheap. USE IT. And at $15 perhaps more than a teaspoon of sauce would be in order. Good fries... all eight of them. I get the cheap decor - it's a diner and as such the decor is fine. I get saving money - like only disposable service items. I don't really get the overflowing trash can in the dining room at 2PM. I don't get the drink comes with the meal only if you ask for it. I don't get the self serve fork basket with the mound of unwrapped plastic forks (health code violation). Bottom line, it's a cheapy Chicago style diner priced like it's...
