Horrible experience and food. Made reservations days prior to arriving, and when we first walked in we were ignored by two members of the wait staff for over five minutes. Once finally greeted by the hostess we were shown to our table which was seated right in front of the constantly opening door on this 40° night.
The first thing we ordered were the Aegean fries appetizer. It took a speedy 30 seconds for them to arrive at our table stone cold. All the toppings were lumped in one spot on top and not melted at all. It did not reflect the pictures on the website and it was extremely disappointing, especially the kfact that the fries themselves were cold and had obviously been sitting for a while before they were served to us. We also ordered the hummus platter as an appetizer. The vegetables were fresh and good but the hummus was flavorless and again disappointing.
Onto the main meals, I’m not sure how to describe what we received but I will tell you what we ordered. First stop, a delicious dish consisting of scallops over lobster ravioli in a butter sauce. The scallops had an odd residue on them which I can only guess was some sort of leftover spice from the pan they were seared in. The lobster raviolis were atrocious. The lobster was extremely dry, there was no sauce in the raviolis, and it had a chewy texture and fishy taste/smell. Also, the raviolis were hardly cooked, and the edges of them were hard and chewy.
The other dish ordered was a short rib special over mushroom and goat cheese ravioli. This was detailed to be served in a browned butter sauce. This dish was by far the worst thing we received. The browned butter sauce was actually a balsamic mixture over an extremely fatty pot roast trying to be passed off as a short rib. I did not have one bite of short rib that did not contain 90% fat. The balsamic flavor was overwhelming and did not go with the mushroom goat cheese under-cooked raviolis. You could also tell the vegetables in the dish were left over from another dish as they were completely mushy and barely held together. The vegetables also had a leftover flavor that did not go with the overall dish and the balsamic.
Besides the quality of the food it was extremely overpriced. We paid $35 and $28 respectively for each meal. Those prices reflect a certain expectation of dining that was not met. I’m the first person to pay $50 for a good steak, but I expect it to be cooked to my liking.
Out of all the fantastic dining options in downtown Plymouth and the surrounding area I have to say this is by far the worst experience and will not go back. I do not recommend this restaurant. The service was subpar from the moment we walked in up to the moment we left. We noted to staff the food was not what we expected and nothing was done for us - not even the question of it we’d like to order something else. Then we were left to sit waiting for our check for over ten minutes after we asked for it.
The very least they could do is put a curtain up near the door to take away some of the draft that we had to endure the entire time we...
Read moreI've been to Anna's several times now, and last night was the best experience yet. This is due, in large part, to our slightly sunburned server, Jessica.
I asked my amazing girlfriend to meet me at Anna's for some Friday Date Night late summer outdoor seating. She arrived before me, and when I arrived, she said, "you're going to like our server."
This is important because she knows I think the server, like the food, can totally make or break the experience, and she has endured my "judginess" on both (simply visit my other Yelp reviews to understand what I mean).
With the bar set high, when Jessica arrived, I almost immediately teased her, and she handled it like an absolute pro, giving it right back to me, with appropriate humor, playfulness, and patience. And when she left, my amazing g/f chastised me. #lifeisgood
Throughout our evening, Jessica visited us only to make sure we were content, and when she did, she continued to offer personality that made her a welcome and appropriately brief addition to our table (it was Date Night, after all).
For dinner, my g/f had the chicken Santorini, which is generally excellent, and the same thing my dad orders 99% of the time he is there. I tried something totally new to me, the gyro meritha.
My meal was, as usual, fine. Nothing I would go out of the way for, but there's always something here that I can enjoy in the company of my amazing g/f in Plymouth's scenic outdoor waterfront.
Note: my g/f dislikes olives (I know, right? She also dislike avocados, so you have a sense of the challenges I face), so all of her warm and delicious olives landed on my plate and they were a welcome addition! Maybe something Anna's will consider adding to their meritha going forward?
Anyway, we had a great night. My g/f loved her meal and having a server with whom she could commiserate, and she and I both enjoyed our date...
Read moreOne should expect crappy food at a heavily trafficked tourist hub and Anna's did not disappoint in this regard. We stopped in on one of our few nights in Plymouth, after eating the previous nights at terrific little seafood shacks, to be a little more, shall I say, fancy. There are two outdoor seating areas, one in a tent that is darker with too many TV screens that are way too large, the other with nothing but tables, chairs and umbrellas. Live music, by two different musicians is going on simulatenously, niether of which were memorable. But let's get to the food. I ordered clam chowder. HELLO, this is the port, this is MA, clam chowder country but not at Anna's. After returning the soup twice due to it having zero clams in it, a server confides in me the soup is pre-made and sent over in batches. Whoever makes this floury clumpy no taste dish has never eaten clam chowder! My friend got the spinach and feta Sapanotaki which tasted more like a croissant than filo dough and had balsamic vinegar drizzled on it. Huh? Disgustingly sweet and worse it wasn't filled with feta cheese but with egg, like an omelet. The servers whilst sweet were way too slow. That is not their fault but rather the kitchen. OK, so they took the clam chowder off the bill and I was hungry so I ordered local Wellfleet oysters. Out of 6 one was decrepit, and the shell was too soft and lined in a yellow goo. I spit that out and again, they didn't charge me for the one. But still! How do you serve delicious oysters like that and shuck them knowing one is bad? Well I guess whoever is shucking has zero clue how to do it. The sauce was wrong. You don't serve cocktail sauce with oysters, that is the domain of shrimp cocktail. Anna's did not have ponzu sauce. Anna's is not someplace to go to in Plymouth when there is so...
