It was my birthday 🎂 today. I planned to have South Indian food and thought Nala's Kitchen is the place to go. But that's about it.
Little did I know I was inform many surprises. I ordered the food online around 6:45 p.m. I called in to confirm my order and they said that the order will be ready in an hour's time. Once I reach there surprisingly they did not have any order in my name. It seems that my credit card was declined which I realized after logging into my account.
Nevertheless I put my order in person and waited for about 20-25 minutes as they were backed up with several other orders.
After waiting quite long I finally got my order and reached home.
To my surprise, there were no chutneys packed in my order. If one is having South Indian food it is like having chapati without any vegetable. Chutneys are an integral part of South Indian food.
For them to have forgotten this did not make much sense. I called them up to see what they could do about it maybe give me a credit or have the balance of the items delivered. None of this happened and instead I just was told that they will look at it next time when I come in.
Instead I got a reason that they were really short-staffed and busy but that doesn't justify not ensuring everything within an order is packed and provided for for every customer.
I was totally torn and extremely angry and upset. The least they could have done is given me a credit for next time are discounted my current order.
I was really looking forward to my birthday meal however it is almost like I would need to forget this day in my memory.
A big lesson learned for next time is always check the contents of the order when you are taking out because you never know what the server on the restaurant will miss while parking your order !!!
I was really looking forward to a lovely meal on my birthday but it just turned out to be not the most memorable ones.
At the end of the day I don't want to spoil my mood, and will...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I are both vegan and went to go to their weekend breakfast buffet which Nala's Kitchen has listed online in multiple locations as being vegetarian & vegan friendly, so we felt pretty confident we would be able to enjoy a portion of items from their buffet without needing to call or ask any questions beforehand about meeting our dietary needs. And while the buffet certainly is vegetarian, after checking with staff (as none of the items were actually labeled), almost nothing on the buffet was actually vegan due to containing ghee, other than some breads and chutney's. Being that we weren't able to eat 90% of the items available and essentially none of the main course items we decided to leave without eating anything, which was unfortunate because we had wanted to come here for awhile and had to drive 45 minutes round trip to get there. The staff were kind enough to allow us to take some breads for free that we already had on our plate before we decided not to eat, which I did tip for, so I do at least appreciate the hospitality and their transparency about what was in the food when asked.
For vegetarians or people ordering off the menu (where I do know they have vegan options when requested) I'm sure the options can be good here, but unfortunately, I felt like the only options available for a buffet being labeled as vegan friendly weren't sufficient enough to provide a satisfactory meal and they should probably change their marketing to reflect this or at least offer some of the dishes without ghee if they want to continue to advertise the buffet as vegan. Other Indian restaurants in the Twin Cities area offer occasional all vegan buffets so we likely will continue to frequent...
Read moreReview 1 Went here for a late afternoon lunch date. The place was almost empty, with just one other table occupied. Service was quick and the staff were courteous. I ordered the ghee roast onion rava dosa — usually takes a while since the griddle needs to heat up, but it arrived in just 10 minutes. That said, the onions could have been cooked a bit more, and the dosa could’ve been crispier. Overall, decent, but not wow.
Review 2 Tried this place despite hearing some mixed reviews. Honestly, the service was very prompt — I didn’t have to wait long for my order. My dosa came in about 10 minutes, which is impressive. Flavors were fine, though I prefer my onions cooked more and the dosa slightly crunchier.
Review 3 Stopped by in the afternoon for a quick bite. Barely anyone inside, so the atmosphere was calm. Staff served my food quickly. I got a ghee roast onion rava dosa — portion was good, but texture was softer than I like. Would have enjoyed it more if the onions were cooked through.
Review 4 Ordered food for takeout and was impressed with how fast it was ready. Didn’t have to wait at all. Service was efficient, no fuss. Only small letdown — when I asked for extra coconut chutney, they didn’t provide any.
Review 5 Clean bathrooms, which is always a plus in my books. However, I noticed my water glass wasn’t refilled without asking. Small detail, but it makes...
