I have eaten at Elmer's restaurant in Pocatello for over 35 years but never will again. During a recent lunch with a friend at Elmer's, we offered a credit card to pay for our meal. We were told by our very nice waitress that their internet was down and we would have to wait until it came back up in order to pay with a card. Not having the time to wait, we scraped together the cash we had between us. The bill was 37$. We had 32$ in cash between us. I asked if we could get the meal for the cash we had. Out comes the owner/manager, Earl Coffman. Mr. Coffman said he would not give us a discount and told us we could give him our credit card to photocopy and that when his internet came back up, that they would complete the sale and shred the copy of our credit card. I said no. We decided to give them the cash we had and they gave us a receipt and a bill for the 5$ we still owed. Mr. Coffman wanted a copy of some kind of ID that he could use to send me a bill for 5$. I let him copy my drivers license. A couple of days later, as my husband and I were leaving for a long road trip, I stopped by Elmer's to give Mr. Coffman the 5$ that I owed and to give the nice waitress a tip. I got a receipt from the waitress for the 5$ that I paid. All good, I thought..... until I returned home. This is the letter I received from Mr. Coffman with the returned copy of my drivers license. He didn’t even bother to get my name right, or recognize that I had already paid the 5$ before he sent the letter.

We came here on purpose after eating here years ago. No complaints about food or coffee. Prices seemed to be what's expected now with good portion sizes. Husband ordered blueberry pancakes with a good number of blueberries and the pancakes themselves were good. I ordered the potato cakes, just 2, but so filling that I couldn't eat both. It's nice that the items like pancakes and waffles come with eggs and choice of meat. Waitress asked if he wanted just the pancakes, so that must be an option, but the price on the menu was for the combo. Most customers seemed to be locals and this appeared to be a favorite place which probably means that they don't notice some things anymore, like the condition of the restaurant and restroom, which could benefit from some updates. We sat in the second booth and I had to sit closer to the window so that I wasn't sitting in a hole left by broken springs or something. Presentation of food, like sour cream placed attractively, is important. Ambience of a restaurant is important. The total package is important when it is getting more expensive to eat out and when there are a couple of competing restaurants with reviews that are enticing.

I was seated very quickly and served by Preston, who treated me respectfully like any other customer despite my young appearance(I'm 17 but appear 13-14). He approached me quickly and served me quickly. He accidentally spilled my orange juice while trying to take my menu, but handled it so professionally. He apologized and immediately went to grab papers towels to clean it up. He didn't profusely apologize, he didn't get defensive, but assessed the issue and immediately moved to solve it. Presentation was great, too. The bowl was clean, as was the spoon– although there was a little bit of spillage on the side. It was nice and thick. The chocolate cake was on it's side, which I respect– that prevents it from falling over while the server brings it out, so props to that. The actual place was busy but rather quiet. I could hear the music, which was quiet. A great place if you're looking for quiet dining. Of course there was still chater, but nothing like a school cafeteria. Overall, a wonderful experience. Food presentation was great and the service was wonderful. I will be returning.

What is happening Elmer's? This has always been our go to place but today's food was horrible! We waited 45 minutes and had to ask where our order was and had to have it put in to go boxes. There were four cooks, why would it take that long and it be so bad.. I looked in the boxes before we left and was shocked by what I saw, the hashbrowns were half what you normally place in an order and the chicken fried looks half the size as well. The taste was horrible and leaves a bad taste, like old oil. We asked for gravy on the hashbrowns and there was only about a tablespoon, so no help there. The biscuits, which we were not given the option for toast as usual, were dry and unappetizing, my omelet has so much grease it is sitting in a pool of it, was only filled half way with the Crab, had three pieces of Avocado, and no hollandaise sauce! A table next to us expressed they had waited longer and there order was messed up too, having an allergy to onions, the ladies omelet had them in it after requesting they be removed. The service was horrible, especially after requesting to go containers, I cannot understand how it became the customers fault, as that is how it made me feel when the waitress who took my payment and had a rude attitude towards it. We are truly saddened to see another local great take a dive, as Papa Paul's did so many years ago! We only gave 2 stars out of respect for all the years we truly loved this place! Another classic gone down! I took pictures but it won't let...

My husband I came in this morning to have a nice breakfast together for his birthday, we were greeted in a timely manor but were quickly neglected. We ordered a German pancake as an appetizer, and a few minutes after we placed our food order. Simple food eggs, hash browns and French toast. While we were waiting for our German pancake and our other food two more tables were sat next to us. They ordered and revived their food within ten minutes. Now I’m fully aware that German pancakes take 10-15 minutes that wasn’t an issue. The issue was once we received our German pancake we ate it and we’re not talked to at all after the fact. Both other tables that were sat right after us got their food and paid and left. At this point we had been sitting there for thirty minutes waiting on our other food. Then our server comes out with my food and said that my husbands food order had been misplaced. I waited 5 minutes to eat my food before my husband begged me to just eat it. I finished my meal and no sight of his meal. Finally 20 minutes after receiving mine his food comes out. Very upsetting that my husband on his birthday wanted to have a nice breakfast but his order was “misplaced” safe to say we will not be coming back. No one came to talk with us. Nothing was said. We paid over $50 for breakfast. Should have just...
