For years, I've been searching for a ramen place close to home. The farthest I've gone for great authentic Japanese food was Sapporo ramen in orlando, 2 hour and 15 minute drive from saint lucie. To my dismay, that place is now permanently closed because the owners retired and decided to close the place for good.
The next place I've gone to is a little restaurant called 'Ebisu' in Palm beach gardens, 1 hour and 15 minute drive from saint lucie. They serve amazing food too.
But do you notice the trend that I'm pointing out here? For great and authentic Japanese food, you need to sacrifice 1- 2 hours of your life to drive well out of your way to find a good quality place for good quality food.
But look no further. Enter 'Ramen Hana & Wings'. How much Time to drive here? 10 minutes... from my house!!!
I was about to not go here considering that I'm on a diet, but when I read the reviews and saw pictures of glorious 'Tonkotsu Ramen', I just had to come here.
The location of this place is way, waaay in the back behind the street front store plaza. They may have not been so lucky in being able to get a good location for their restaurant, but don't let the location fool you. once you find it and open the door to walk in; it is a complete transformation from your impression outside to your impression inside.
The inside decor is very pleasant and if you don't like tables, they got a front side bar seating area right next to the kitchen area.
I ordered Takoyaki, Chasu bun, a bowl of Tonkatsu ramen, and their Desert which was a cream roll with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream topped with chocolate syrup.
First came the Takoyaki. Drizzled on top was their sauce and a helpful topping of bonito flakes. The taste of it is exactly the same as with any other place. The Outer shell Was pretty crispy, but that didn't change the flavor profile.
Next came their Tonkotsu bowl, with slightly charred slices of chashu pork, half a nitamago egg, small sheet of nori seaweed for decor, green onions, and an ingredient that reminded me of bamboo shoots but may have been caramelized onions, not really sure (see picture attached). I love fresh hand-made noodles, i painstakingly make noodles myself in large batches when I stock up on ingredients so I can make fresh ramen on the fly instead of doing a lot of work for one bowl. The noodles in my bowl didn't taste or look like they were made fresh and more like they were bought pre-made, but I don't expect restaurants to do what I do. and besides; the way it all tasted in the end gives this bowl a free pass in my book. The portion size of this bowl was pretty small for my taste, but to be honest and fair; Americans have been accustomed to gluttonous portion sizes for way too long. If you like large portions, this place may not be for you, but for me; this was completely fine.
Last was the Chasu bun, which was a flat oval Nikuman style flour dough that's steamed, with toppings of chashu pork, lettuce, and a delicious spicy bbq type sauce smothering the pork and then folded in half like a taco and then sprinkled with sesame seeds on top. This dish is more 'puffy dough' then Chashu pork, but it reminded me a lot of steamed pork buns.
This was were I was going to end my food journey into this place until the waitress asked me if I wanted desert. I was going to say no but I got curious and asked what they had. The waitress informed me that the desert options was not on the menu but they offered fried donuts, mochii, and cream roll with ice cream.
Unable to pick, I asked what her favorite was, and after a bit of thought and laughter (I take it she was never asked that question before) she informed me she liked the cream roll desert.
The desert was nothing special, just two slices of a small vanilla Yule log with rainbow sprinkles, a scoop of vanilla ice cream with whipped cream topped with chocolate syrup
Wish this place had a TV to watch and maybe the portions could be changed (like what ebisu and Sapporo offer) , but overall I highly recommend to give this...
Read moreThis was the most traumatizing experiencing I’ve ever had at any dine in restaurant. I ordered wings, a sprite, 2 sauces and a shrimp tempura noodle soup. I ate everything BUT the soup. It was very tasteless and I tried asking for other condiments but everything was an up charge so I used hot sauce. I took 2 sips and when the server came to the table I told her I didn’t like it and she said “ok that’s fine ,” and came back with the bill. I said well mam I’m not going to pay for food I didn’t eat, as in the soup, so I will pay for everything else but I can speak to the chef or whoever to comp this food or fix it, and she said “so who’s paying for it..me?” I said no I can speak to someone else..your just the server it’s not your fault. She then said “ oh so you just go everywhere and order free food and not pay?” And from there it all went bad. Another cook from the back also came and started yelling at me and both of them started yelling and was so angry which I couldn’t understand why because any restaurant would of just comp’d it or tried fixing it. I hate throwing the race card into situations…but there were two white customers and to see a black women getting yelled at for “trying to eat for free”, over a bill that was about $33 was so degrading and embarrassing. Especially how the world sees black women already. I tried showing her I have a business, I own a home and car, I had $60 cash in my wallet with credit cards.. it had NOTHING to do with the amount because I would of ordered something else to go just to support them because I felt so bad. But the way I was treated and yelled at by the server and the cook in the back, I absolutely walked out without paying. The server took pictures of my car and everything. I was so upset at how bad she was yelling at me, I think I even cursed at her. And I’ve never done that before. The food in my opinion wasn’t horrible. But all that just because I didn’t like the soup. I’ve never been treated like this in my entire life. Not even...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem in Port St Lucie. I am always surprised when I find restaurants of this quality anywhere these days. From the atmosphere, service, and food quality, this place rocks! I found this place on Google. We had the Seboten - Spicy Miso Ramen with the spice on the side, a small plate of the Duck Balsamic Teriyaki, Pork Gyoza (dumplings), and a plate of the Fried Dohnut with Condense milk for desert. Hot green tea and Choya Yuzu Soda. Everything we ate was top-notch, worthy of being rated along side of any five-star restaurant. The Duck dish, I must say, was prepared to perfection. The duck meat was succulent, and the small amount of duck fat was crispy, not overcooked or dry. The soup was super flavorful and loaded, filling. The Gyoza dumplings were crispy on one side and also cooked to perfection, lite, and flavor packed. The atmosphere was very good. Great music that was not the usual stuff you hear on the radio. This place is small, and that fact contributes to the cozy feel to it. Family or intimate, your choice. It's all good at this place. The service was excellent. We never waited too long for anything. The staff was suggestive yet not pushy. One note, they do not serve any alcohol. Trust me, you won't need it. This place is very relaxing and a great place to enjoy your family or significant other in peace as it is well hidden in the very back of the plaza it is in. Go, enjoy. This place is cool and...
