I really want to like this place, as it's near the office, the staff is very friendly, and the ingredients they are of good quality. The issue I have is that the food is too often under seasoned, lacking in good flavor balance, or just plain weird combinations of things that might seen good in concept, but don't work well together in execution. The good: The pate baguette is very good, as are a few of the more common panini combinations. The bad: The deli salads are underwhelming in flavor as are many of the soups. A recent example was the sausage gumbo. I'm thinking gumbo: a dark rich roux thickened with file or okra, and full of celery, onion, peppers, with andouille and chicken, topped over rice. This was definitely a light soup, with very little in the way of vegetables, no roux, no okra, no spice or heat.
You guys can do better. So much promise. Menu items that scream flavor, but ultimately fail to deliver. 5 out of 6 times it's just kinda boring food, and at a price that should knock my socks off. For contrast, Taylor Street Kitchen has less variety but is consistent on good creative stimulating flavors and perfect balance. What's holding...
Read moreMy husband and I really wanted to love this place. We happened to see it a few times when we have come to the library and then recently saw them on the news and thought now is the time to check them out and maybe find our new regular lunch spot. Unfortunately when we walked in we felt unwelcome. After a minute the owner said, oh you're still deciding and left it at that. They didn't attempt to engage with us or to give any recommendations. They gave off a unfriendly and cold attitude. We ordered to go and while waiting we watch as a handful of customers walk in who apparently are regulars and were treated VERY differently! They shared smiles and pleasant dialog and it seemed that some of their names were known, hence my previous statement about being regulars. My husband and I were hoping to be one of your regulars too but you made us feel like we didn't...
Read moreI know it's counter intuitive for me to tell you to order a salad at a sandwich bar, but the salads at Addys are ginormous, come with a couple slices of Little T's bread on the side, and are filling and delicious! When I ordered a sandwich here, I felt a little ripped off for a tiny, $9 baguette sandwich that still left me feeling hungry. But when I ordered a salad, I was pleasantly surprised! This is a go-to lunch spot for me now when I'm craving a big, tasty salad! They also have a juice bar, and are open for breakfast sandwiches and coffee in the morning. Small little cafe style bar so not a lot of seating, but somehow it's never that busy so I find myself able to get a seat. A couple of nice outdoor tables, too in the summer. Staff is nice...
