When you see chalk that says "Vampire Tacos" it's not like you're going to just walk by it.

I asked the owner what they were and they described a method of cooking the cheese to the corn tortilla so it would crisp and look like a bat wing. They answered questions related to my wheat allergy as well. Then informed me they had a fresh batch of beef they had just finished braising. Sold.

They weren't busy but he told me it would take about 17 minutes and I don't mind that at all. Sat in the beer garden nearby and talked with friends until my buzzer went off.

Damn. These are the best tacos I've had in Portland. It came with "blood" to dip them in and I couldn't help myself as I scarfed down all of them. I was wearing a white T-shirt and narrowly managed to avoid looking like a vampire as I drenched each taco. The beef was so incredibly zesty and soft and melted together with the cheese perfectly.

I'm telling anyone that will listen, go get the vampire tacos from Cocina Serrano if they're ever on the menu again. The owner is extremely friendly, it's family owned and he loves just making food that tastes good. It shows. I'll gladly give any tips to pay for his son's...
