One base offering done extraordinarily well with infinite variations, at a price that's right for a treat, but not an extravagance. I first got excited for this place after trying them at the vegan mac competition a couple of years ago, and have enjoyed following their journey into delicious, socially conscious entrepreneurship.

While it doesn't diminish the food, they have been pretty rude every time we've interacted- not sure if this is something to do with how I present (which is very different from who I am) or maybe it's a fluke and they were distracted by other things going on behind the scenes. Nothing hugely offensive, it just takes a lot of work to get acknowledged even when I'm the only person there, the overheard conversation seems to be a constant stream of complaints, and normal service industry-customer small talk is just not on the menu. I don't take it personally but wouldn't stick around to eat. They seem like very good people, but maybe not nice ones. I mention this only so you're prepared- either you now know what to expect, or its a total coincidence and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Bottom line? Delicious rolls, awkward but earnest people, you should treat yourself by...

Hail Snail is an incredible little shop where everything is delicious. I'm fully and completely serious. They're inventive and interesting, and their little 'snail' atmosphere is quirky. They're so cool looking and honestly Instagram worthy every time, if that's something important to you. Plus! It's very rare to find somewhere that the gluten free options taste just as good as the standard. Snail knocks it out of the park. We've been going almost once a week for a little while, and just finished today's. Looking forward to going next...

I have searched 12 years for a gluten-free cinnamon roll that tastes even remotely like my grandma's heavenly fresh-baked yeast-rising cinnamon roll delights. THESE from Hail Snail are as close to home-baked perfection as I have ever found.

The gluten-free cinnamon rolls were soft and not dry. They're fluffy, like a yeast roll should be. And they're perfectly flavored. The filling was rich with cinnamon and sugar and has a rich, gooey center to leave you a blissfully satisfied last bite. Grandma Mary would approve!

So so...

I popped into the shop today with a friend. Our cinnamon rolls were out of this world! Full of whimsy and sprinkles! Both of them were absolutely delightful. Did we walk away with a punch card? You better believe it! The owner was working and we got to chat with them about their dreams coming true. I am so glad we get to be part of it πŸ’œ. Definitely keep your eyes peeled for their vegan market! So many great local artists and creative folks coming out with vegan treats!

Quite simply the finest vegan cinnamon roll (in all of Portland) that your mouth could dream of devouring. On my first visit I purchased two different types. The one that I took a photo of is called lunchbox. This nostalgic gastronomic delight starts with a cinnamon roll foundation and his topped with peanut butter sauce, strawberry sauce, and crumbled salty potato chips. Absolutely delectable and delicious.
