A friend bought me here for breakfast one morning, he hadn't hyped it up or anything, it was just a place he had eaten from time to time. I mention that because I think a lot of bad reviews come from the restaurant not living up to the high expectations that others have put out about it. No hype here though so I was coming in fairly unbiased. Also this view doesn't reflect their lunch or dinner preparations, just what I was able to get their for breakfast one morning.
I got the chorizo breakfast scramble, a biscuit, and a diet lime coke. All together it cost me somewhere between nine and eleven bucks.
The chorizo scramble was alright. Nothing blew me away about it in particular, but nothing I can really fault it for either. I did like that it had a decent bit of spice to it. It was made from scratch so that was nice.
I was pretty disappointed by the biscuit; it was cold, dense, and totally unappetizing. Maybe it's a cultural thing and I'm just biased against it. I'm used to light, hot, and fluffy buttermilk biscuits and of course this didn't compare to that. Still, this biscuit somehow seemed to be cooler than room temperature, like it had been pulled form the fridge and was almost done thawing.
Personally I wouldn't seek this place out again and I think you could probably find better fare...
Read moreThis is my favorite deli in Portland. This particular location is very convenient for me. While the prices are a bit high, I like the quality of the food, the honest ingredients, and the way it seems they take care of their employees. People seem genuinely happy to work there, which is a good thing these days.
My favorites are the quinoa and black bean salad, the humus and red pepper sandwich, the pastrami on rye, and their mac and cheese. You really can't go wrong with anything there. The only issue is the pricing. Elephants is a certified B corporation as far as I know, so supposedly, they are required to make sure their products are ethically sourced, pay fair wages to employees, etc. This is part of their reason why the food is so expensive. It's worth it,...
Read moreFood was fine, it was a little understaffed for the lunch rush because they got our order wrong. This place needs to spend a little time remembering how they got this big and a little less time expanding “/
RESPONSE - I would have asked the order to be remade had I caught it, but I was picking up lunch for a client I was meeting with at another location, so I took the bag and left - it should not be the responsibility of the customer to make sure the order is correct - That is on your team. No only was it wrong, but they failed to put two items in the bag that they...
