No idea why or how this place gets so many stars but to be honest, I really wasn't that impressed. And from talks with other friends, most appear to be in agreement.
We went for my birthday one Friday evening, around 6pm and it was busy. We put our names in at the concierge downstairs for about 9pm and then strolled down to the Bar of Chocolate and a couple other places before coming back.
Got called back at around 8:45 and arrived just at 9pm, and we thought we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the night. The atmosphere and the aesthetic were pleasing, and the staff seemed friendly, and accommodating. We were a party of 5 sitting outside. The view is decent and we all really enjoyed the outdoor deck.
We ordered drinks and some food. Drinks were delicious and the food was yummy. Except - and here I'm going to be blunt - the drinks weren't large and the plates of food weren't a lot. The server was cordial but not friendly. I get it - it's a new place, with new wait staff, opening up in the middle of a pandemic. Staffing is short, people are tired and stressed, and everyone just wants normalcy.
We enjoyed the view and the drinks were delicious and we had a great time - it was my birthday, we were all in good moods because it's a celebration.
But just because the world is in chaos does not mean that folk can still be rude (this applies to customers AND servers)
When the time for the bill came, she put us all on one, instead of at least asking if we'd like it separately. When we all put our cards down, she said they can't split the bill. After conferring with her manager, she came back and said, in a very patronizing and condescending tone, "going forward just be aware that we can't split a check between multiple cards but we'll allow it just this once."
And right after this, exactly 11pm (on a FRIDAY, mind you) the bouncer yelled "WE'RE CLOSED EVERYONE OUT!" They herded us all out and locked the doors behind us.
So - great food and drinks but overpriced and once it's closing time, all friendliness and professionalism flies out the door and they want you gone.
Even without an outdoor deck, Top of the East is much better in service, price vs...
Read moreWe visited Luna with friends last week and had a terrific time. The service and drinks were great and the vibe energetic and fun. The following night we went again and had a very different experience. We decided to go to Luna for dessert and a nightcap. We were staying in the area (not at the Canopy) and the hotel had signs in the elevator for how to access Luna. It was the day after the Lewiston tragedy and we were impressed with how the Canopy Hotel provided extra security. There was no hostess at Luna that night but there was a sign advising people to seat themselves and place their order at the bar. We spoke with the bartender and he said we could sit anywhere and he'd be over to take our order. We sat in the couch area inside and the bartender (Eddie?) took our order for cocktails and the ice cream sampler. He was terrific and makes a fantastic old fashioned! Before our drinks arrived, what seemed to be the manager (Matt) and a staff member started closing up things on the terrace and pushing the last group out. Then they put the lights on super bright inside and started doing the same all around us - very noisily. I spoke to Matt and said we hadn't even gotten our dessert and were feeling uncomfortable and unwanted. He said "sorry" - very perfunctorily, not at all sincerely and said they were closing early. I asked why our order was taken then if we weren't going to be given a chance to enjoy it. He just said sorry again and kept banging chairs. He said there were signs in the elevator about the 8 pm closing and I pointed out that wasn't the case when we came up and the sign at the entrance didn't note this. The bartender was very apologetic when we went over to settle the bill. He was very sincere about it. The service rating reflects excellent service from Eddie and a terrible experience with the manager. It was an unsettling time in the city for everyone and the way we were treated left us with a very different impression of the Canopy Hotel. The manager's treatment and approach were the very opposite of what anyone would expect from someone in the...
Read moreAwful experience last night 7/21/22. Walked in around 6pm with a table of four. Was greeted by two hosts- asked if we could seat out side they said no problem. We sat down at a table of four on the inside of the out door area. We asked if we could be seat at the comfier seats on the out side The host thought about it for a second and then she said yes that is fine so we went and sat over by the glass overlooking the city. Five minutes went by and then the other host came up to us-mind you there are four or five open tables all along the outside and told us the table was for parties of six or more… I kindly replied and told her that the other host said it was fine if we sat there-in the meantime the second host walked up behind her they stepped away for a moment and then the original host that Sat us came back over to us and in the Rudest, snobbiest Manor said I’d appreciate it if you go back to the original table I sat you at! As if she never said it was OK if we had moved to the second table. So we went back and sat at the table of four for just a moment when the gentleman sitting next to us said he had been there many times and could not believe how unprofessional and rude they had just been after telling us it was OK to go over there and sit he asked for his check and said he’d never be back.we got up and followed him out as well. Which is a shame because we have spent a lot of money at Luna. It was our number one spot to bring clients weekly and now you have lost our business and apparently the gentleman that was sitting at the table next to us As well. It was just extremely uncalled for And unprofessional. The restaurant should be absolutely ashamed of how your host treated...
