Came here with some out of town friends (used to live here, previous customers)
They close at 10pm and we arrived at 9:14pm. The moment we walked in, a group of 5, the bartender ran past us and says tells us, it's last call, you get one drink. We were taken a back as we weren't even greeted. But I get it, sure fine. We sit down immediately (it was a slow night, Thursday, there was 4 other tables). He quite literally tossed the menus on the table and runs off again. I thought, oh he's gotta be working on a big order. I creepily observe him and he's preclosing...so wiping bottles down, etc. We place our order, 4/5 drinks and one person in our party was already put off by the service. We get our drinks pretty fast actually, 9:25pm. Two cocktails taste lovely, but the other two were just not meeting expectations. So we begrudgingly go to the bar and ask for something else. He immediately gets super defensive, saying I've made hundreds before, all the exact same way. My friend just orders her drink as to not interact with the hostility but he continues, so she repeats her order and he proceeds to make them. During the process he's throwing a tantrum and slamming bottles, shakers, it was all a bit intense. When we got our new drinks, one was great, the other was not but at that point just drink up and leave.
I understand trying to close. I understand having a stressful day. But being arrogant and disrespectful to your guests isn't the way to handle your guests. We came here after dinner to relax and say goodbye to our friends and we left awkwardly and frustrated. I will never recommend this business. A shame bc it's a great location in the pearl. Unfortunately, an egocentric bartender ruined a lovely evening and our...
Read moreProbably the one place in Portland that doesn't do happy hour. This is a pricey place, but the drinks are second to none. The blood orange kamikaze is by far one of the best martinis I've ever had. It's also a really quiet atmosphere, which makes this a great place to talk and relax. The indoor area is dark and comfy, or you can sit on the patio which is wonderful for summer. I've never had the food - even if it is good the prices are too high for me. But those drinks...WORTH IT.
The ONLY negative thing I can say: I was there with a girlfriend catching up and a very drunk guy came over and started bothering us. He proceeded to bother every single person, even couples, and he wasn't thrown out. Considering their upscale atmosphere, I'm surprised they tolerated it, and I wish...
Read moreI had a chance to meet the owner, he decided to park really close to my large truck I just so happened to pull over in front of his place in the daylight raining and foggy. Well you see the signs on semi trucks if you can't see my mirrors I can't see you that's my truck I backed up to leave looking in the mirrors seeing nothing but felt a bump on the truck that was his car and a small dent in his license plate and that resulted in an insurance scam that jacked up my rates for 3 years and a thousand dollars in damage. His car was parked a foot or so behind me and that's impossible to do that...
