I ordered from DoorDash delivery the salted caramel, toffee vanilla coconut, and pumpkin spice mini cupcakes. I got a call about my order. This person was very professional, he said that the pumpkin spice option is a mistake, as it is only seasonal to fall. He offered carrot cake as a substitute. I was disappointed, but agreed to this and he added an additional salted caramel for the trouble. He said he was working on getting it fixed. When the delivery got to my apartment, I opened it to find only one cupcake still intact (picture attached). I managed to get ahold of the delivery driver (Stevie according to my text alerts) before he got too far and he said, “yea, they always say to keep it upright.” He blamed the bumps on the road and inadequate packaging to withstand those bumps. From what I understand, this is not the first time this complaint has been made. He suggested I make a complaint and that if enough complaints are made, perhaps the packaging would be changed or upgraded to something better. The packaging is similar to what I usually see for cupcakes and any kind of cake delivery requires a careful driver who does ensure things remain upright. I have had to drive to deliver cakes for personal reasons and it does require more caution. This review is still 5 stars because the cupcakes were delicious and I entirely fault the driver. This is a 5 star complaint against the delivery driver, who took no responsibility for the presentation of those...
Read moreI would on occasion visit St. Cupcake when I worked nearby & I always enjoyed the cupcakes that I tried there. I'm specifically reviewing today their newer venture into cakes - I ordered a 2 layer 6" pumpkin spice cake with vanilla buttercream frosting for a birthday.
I was frustrated with a few Hillsboro bakeries that I contacted that said they didn't customize the cakes at all, not even to write happy birthday on them. St. Cupcake said that wasn't an issue & I only mentioned that I wanted to have a fall-theme color scheme & some accents around the outside of the cake. I left it to their artistic creativity for what it looked like. I think it turned out great, and it tastes great: the cake is moist and flavorful. The frosting needs a bit more flavor, but I suspect this is my fault - meaning I substituted the normal cream cheese frosting for vanilla buttercream & I think the stronger tasting pumpkin spice cake cancels out the flavor of the frosting. So I'd try the cake with its standard frosting.
My suggestions for improvement would be that:
We tried the vegan cupcake with the pink frosting. It was very light and airy and good. We tried the salty Captain, which was a light fluffy vanilla kind of cupcake with a caramel buttercream and flaky sea salt on top. Then we tried a strawberry/rhubarb. It was basically a vanilla cupcake but the topping had a nice rhubarb jelly on the frosting. We tried a lemon cupcake and it had great lemon flavor on top but again just a vanilla cupcake. We also tried a hot fudge chocolates cupcake... basic chocolate cupcake but the hot fudge topping was extremely rich. We tried carrot cake (which is my favorite) very good, nicely spiced with cream cheese frosting. We tried a classic vanilla and it was a regular vanilla cupcake with vanilla cream cheese frosting (very yummy). Toasted coconut was good but not very coconuty... It had a vanilla cupcake with coconut buttercream and toasted coconut on top (would have been much better with a coconut vanilla cupcake). I adore that they offer minis and regular size. Service was friendly and informative. Atmosphere was clean, bright and...
