Zephyr Ice — Restaurant in Portland

I had visited Hawaii once and was craving Hawaiin shave ice when I went to Google where the closest place I could get one and living in a remote town I was SHOOK to see there was Zephyr Ice in Portland. We drove up from Boothbay to check this spot out and boy did it hit!

The ice itself was outstanding - so soft a fluffy. They make their own natural fruit syrups. I am a huge coconut fan and was very happy with my choice. If you're familiar with shave ice and the syrups, Zephyr's coconut looks much whiter compared to the clear, mass produced syrups but it was so delicious. I highly recommend. I also am a typical vanilla gal but they made their own macadamia nut ice cream that I had to try and was so glad that I passed on the normal vanilla. It was delicious! I topped my with toasted coconut which was a nice touch.

I would come here still even if I didn't love the ice just because we got to meet the owners and they were just so lovely. Luckily, the ice was delicious that it will be a bonus to come back to this place. They are so passionate about their place, the syrups and hawaiin ice and are honestly just so lovely. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we walked in and she guided my boyfriend through his first hawaiin ice experience. They were so laid back and easy going. My boyfriend and I both work in the hospitality industry and we love when we see owners right there in the mix and that's what these two were doing. Good for them!

Waiting for a show to start at The State and found this little gem around the corner. I'm orginally from New York where I remember Italian Ice being a delightful treat in the summer time. After moving to Maine in 1997, "slushies" at the gas station were closest pathetic attempt at shaved ice I could find...until now. The shop is cute and simple with delightful, extremely knowledgeable and attentive staff. Multiple team members excitedly came up to introduce the options, what they were all about, and how to order.

This shaved Ice and home made ice cream combination is phenomenal! "Small" is a generous serving and even a sharable portion. I got the Cream sickle options, Base of home made ice cream, layered with shaved ice and a fruit flavor of your choice (I chose Strawberry, Lemon, Raspberry), topped with homemade whipped cream and special cloud top. found a new favorite spot to visit! the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, ready to answer any questions and to explain flavors and the process of making their delicious treats! people of all ages were smiling and enjoying every bite. I got a specialty flavor called Uncle Salty, which had chocolate syrup, caramel drizzle and crushed pretzels all over, and I obviously added some whipped cream. 🤤 if you love sweet and salty, you have to get something like this! Their homemade vanilla ice cream at the bottom of the mountain of shaved ice was the best end to an amazing dessert.
