⚠️ Warning…this is a long, but positive review. Blow on by if you are short on time, don’t like to read, or are impatient.⚠️ Short Version: Murphy’s has great atmosphere, excellent food, and top notch service!
I’m a 20 year local to Prescott and actually live right across the street from Murphy’s. I have only eaten there about 5 times over the years. Last night I brought my visiting parents there, for their 1st time, and my only meal there in over 3 years.
Murphy’s is beyond due for my review and really deserves better from us locals, who often take for granted all the reasons we love our beautiful Central Arizona mountain town (I am guilty of this too!).
We decided to just order a variety of appetizers and such, rather than full meals, as it was Happy Hour and there were some good deals, and also because we had all pigged out too much the day before. Besides…it’s fun to share a variety of tasty treats together, my family all sharing every item.
Our orders:
Lobster Mac & Cheese (sinful perfection!). Buffalo Wings (these may be the best seasoned wings ever IMHO). Crab Cakes (my Mother is an authentic French chef from New England, and in my biased view makes the best crab cakes ever. She is also very critical of others cooking. She almost never gives a thumbs up. She absolutely LOVED Murphy’s crab cakes. I was so happy for her to experience these in her life. She is 90 years old). Escargot (my favorite escargot preparation is the Italian way. These were not that, but they were really, Really, well made…not rubbery like most non-Michelin rated restaurants. We enjoyed them). Wines (We did some sample tasting, then ordered our favorites. very nice!). Crème Brûlée (exactly as this fine and exceptional dessert should be!).
Atmosphere:
You can see most of this on their website and in the photos of other reviewers. All I can add to this is that it was nicely quiet, not any hustle-bustle activity or excessive noise in the surroundings. Also, the booth seating offers really good privacy if one is having an important or private conversation.
Service:
Very quick. Attentive, but not bothersome. Genuinely accommodating (offering some pre-order wine tasting when noticing our indecision). During the meal, the Manager (David) checked in with us about our satisfaction…as any good manager should. Of course, he and the restaurant overall received our high compliments.
Prices: Who cares! Value for the money: (That’s what counted to us). Murphy’s is on the mark there!
Well…that’s all I’ve got for ya. Obviously, I highly recommend Murphy’s. If you are in Prescott, plan a meal or two there…I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed.
Best wishes, Emerson Stikarofsky

Read moreCame to Murphy's today (Superbowl Sunday) for an early Valentine's Day dinner. Hostess and waitress were nice. Atmosphere was fine. The place was pretty much all ours due to the superbowl, so it was looking to be a very pleasant experience.
BUT we won't be returning.
I, being a vegetarian (not by choice but for medical reasons), had very few meal choices (something I'm very used to) BUT on the menu it specifically states that they "Will do everything possible to accommodate dietary restrictions" (spoiler: they will NOT do everything possible).
The waitress gave us a "Valentine's Day" menu which did NOT offer a vegetarian main dish BUT DID offer an amazing-sounding Strawberry Spinach Salad and also a Stuffed Mushroom appetizer. One of the main dishes also included asparagus. All of which sounded delicious to me.
The main menu only offered a Cesar Salad and a Wedge Salad, and a sauteed mushroom appetizer (no veggie side dishes listed) so I asked if I could order the Strawberry Spinach Salad. "No, they aren't offering anything from the Valentine's Menu separately".
So I ordered the Poblano Mac n Cheese from the main menu and asked if I could get a side of asparagus or stuffed mushrooms. Again "No". Mind you...there were ZERO vegetable side dishes offered on main menu...only potatoes and rice. ?!?
I have never owned a restaurant so I can't speak on WHY they wouldn't offer their Valentine's Day items separately but...it seems to me that if you actually have asparagus available to serve, and you claim to be willing to "do everything possible to accommodate dietary restrictions"...that you should serve the asparagus to a customer who is willing to pay for it. 🤷‍♀️
Anyway, the Poblano Mac n Cheese came and it was quite bland...I had to put quite a bit of salt on it to get any flavor. Not gross, just not delicious either. And this may be a bit petty, but the menu said it came with a bread crumb topping, it did not. It came with a sprinkling of cilantro. And it did not come with ANYTHING else...no garlic bread, no veggie side dish, nothing. Definitely not worth $16.
My husband ordered a rack of ribs with garlic mashed potatoes which also came with green beans. He said it was all just "ok" but he's had better ribs at Texas Roadhouse for less $$.
Anyway, that's my experience at Murphy's. We tried it. We were disappointed. We won't...
Read moreSadly I did not check reviews more carefully. We were visiting Prescott looking for houses at the same time our 55th anniversary yesterday so thought this would be a place with great food. After spending $135 for food we were very disappointed. I am very picky about prime rib and want an end cut because of the concentration of seasoning it has the most flavor. I also want it well done and order it that way. My wife wanted hers med well some pink. It came with a side and veggie of the day which was green beans. I ordered the prime rib end cut well done no pink and baked potato butter only. We skipped the salad because we thought two sides and the main would be enough. We got there at 4:45 for a 5:00 reservation. We were seated promptly and the service was excellent. wishing us a happy anniversary. The waiter and server were super and said no problem getting the prime rib my way. The meal came pretty quickly which should have been a signal. The prime rib was pink and I asked them to cook it more. I should have paid more attention because the normal end cut usually is much darker and the seasoning baked in. This was just slightly darker They suggest I keep the potato and just took the meat. My wife is not that picky. Both mine and my wife's prime rib was a good size but I figured for $45 that was reasonable Looking at was was supposed to be baked potato with butter only it looked more like boiled and was not very good. It certainly did not appear baked. The house veggie was 5 green bean sticks hardly anything special as proclaimed. As I waited for my prime rib to return I noticed my wife was picking she said it did not have much flavor and was lacking a prime rib that is best well seasoned and roasted over a long time. When my prime rib returned it was a little more done on one end but hardly well done. The center was still pink. While they did ask if it was better at this point I really was no longer hungry and my wife left more than 3/4 and I left even more. I guess the service good and I was no longer hungry I did not complain but clearly someone leaving that much on their plate was a signal. My wife said for over $120 meal she wanted to take the meat home for our German Shepherds which we did see the photo I would not...
