I’ve been going to Brasas for a few years. My wife (who is from Mexico) and I are always looking for good latin food in Utah, and this place used to be on our list. However, over the last year or so we’ve been noticing the quality has gone downhill. The service, while never having been great, is now actively bad, and the food doesn’t seem fresh any longer.
Some context for my low rating; we were craving some specialty tacos for dinner last night. I called Brasas at 8:30pm to make a pick-up order. I was asked if I would hold, which I was fine with as I assumed they were busy. Two minutes later, they hung up on me. Again, I figured I had called during a rush and that someone walking by had hung up the phone. Not deterred, I decided to place an order on DoorDash and have it delivered instead. Within five minutes of placing the order I was notified that my order had been canceled due to the restaurant “not taking orders currently.”
Still not discouraged (for some stupid reason), I decided to call again after waiting 20 more minutes to see if the rush had died down. It was now around 9pm. After the third ring, my call went to voicemail, which in my experience is typically a sign of the call being screened by the recipient. After that, my wife and I went through the typical, “where should we eat now” conversation. In a few minutes we decided we were both craving the Brasas tacos and would drive down and place an order in person.
When we arrived, I was surprised to find that the restaurant had only four patrons. Annoyed, but figuring it wasn’t worth the time to find somewhere else to eat, I ordered two entrees. After making my to go order to the extremely indifferent cashier, I waited another 10 minutes for my tacos. The food was not fresh or even good, and it is now 4am the next morning and I am lying awake from a bad stomachache hoping I don’t have food poisoning.
My experiences last night and over the last year or so has me adding Brasas to my list of places not to give my business to anymore. Brasas, if you read this review, I understand that someone might just write this off as a bad day or the product of me ordering food at 9pm. If you are going to stay open until 10:30pm, at least maintain the quality of your food, or maybe you should close earlier. This review isn’t about one experience either, things have been getting worse over time and my visit last night was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. Either way, I hope you make some changes, but we won’t be returning...
Read moreI have LOVED this restaurant ever since I accidentally found it many years ago. This was my go to place for good authentic Mexican food. Today that dream was shattered. I know restaurants have bad days but when they're this bad they tend to close soon after. I took my father to eat here for lunch. He ordered the steak smothered burrito. I ordered the steak chimmichanga and asked that they smother it with cheese. We also got 2 orders or the chips and salsa. My fathers burrito was made so fast that we hadn't even finished ordering. That is all fine and dandy except that it took us almost 10 min till we managed ti finally finish ordering. Im trying to nicely say that the guy who took our order couldn't hardly speak English and was super slow at putting our order in, getting our drinks, chips and salsa and then ringing our order in. When we got our receipt we realized that, this food that was in the counter for 10 min was my father's food. Mine was ready shortly after. My fathers food had hardly no steak in it and what was there was only on one end. The meat had bones and several pieces that were quite grizzly. As expected the food was cold but inexcusably the cheese INSIDE the burrito wasn't even melted completely. My chimmichanga had zero meat in it what so ever and when I asked the guy who was working the front of house he said that he thought I ordered a cheese only chimmichanga. To make things easier for them to fix my order I told them I would be willing to just have them give me the steak for my chimmichanga in a separate container. Being as my dad got so little steak i asked if it was possible to just get a little for his burrito. The worker said that was fine and went on back to get it. Then he proceeds to tell me I had to buy the steak. He then starts just ringing me up and charged me $5.89 for meat that was supposed to have been in my chimmichanga. Then just as with my fathers burrito the cheese inside wasn't 3ven melted and was cold. The whole meal was cold. The beans were Way too salty. I could go on and on with the issues with the sauces and salsa. The ONLY good thing I can say about my meal was that it was over. This was one of the restaurants youd see on Kitchen Nightmares. I hope that one day it can be my go to...
Read moreYOU CAN ORDER GRILLED STEAK BURRITOS WITHOUT PAYING THROUGH THE NOSE! Brasas is to Cafe Rio as the Cleveland Indians are to the New York Yankees: everyone wears Yankees hats, everyone thinks of the Yankees first, people that don't even like the Yankees would go to a Yankees game just because of name recognition, but the Indians can offer a better, less-crowded experience for less money. I understand, your cup overfloweth with Mexican food in Provo, However, listen to ole' Peter as he spins the tale of Brasas Mexican Grill. The lines don't extend to the stratosphere, even though they're in the same parking lot as Cafe Rio. The owners are the staff and vice versa, and they're very kind people. My grilled steak burrito was $7 and tasted amazing, improved by a complimentary salsa/condiment bar with different kinds of salsa and peppers (especially some actually spicy stuff). The horchata doesn't taste like the Hi-C that Cafe Rio sells: it's spicy/sweet and delicious. Seriously, go to Brasas right now. Drop what you're doing. If you're in line at Cafe Rio/Costa Vida for the 62nd time this year, head to Brasas,...
