Provo City School District — Local services in Provo

I am not going to sugar coat this review. My mental health was in the slums during my entire time in the Provo District. The counselors are jokes, they do not help students whatsoever, and in my experience do WAY more harm than good. Many of the other students have said the same. Truth be told, your child will probably have a less than good time if they aren't wealthy and white. I do not suggest sending your students to school here if they are in the lesser majority. The staff does little to nothing when it comes to students coming to them for help (regarding bullying, home troubles, etc.) They give students way too much homework, and after switching to a different district I have been significantly less stressed and anxious about my grades. The teachers where I am at now are way more understanding and they are wonderful with students. Within the first week that I switched we were offered better communication, met with a kinder staff, and a better environment all around. For the areas that the schools are in, you would expect them to be treated better. If I'm going to be blunt, the bathrooms and state of the schools were horrible. For such high income locations, they really should be taken better care of you'd think.

Now to address covid-19, the fun stuff. To be as straight forward as possible, the district in entirety handles it awfully. I didn't feel safe in their hands and left due to the fact. They opened the school and had it shut down almost immediately afterwards, because they surpassed the 15 cases. They attempted to do the same a little bit later and unfortunately succeeded. A lot of my peers were incredibly careless and didn't take the comfort of their classmates into consideration. I never saw masks or distancing being reinforced, and it almost looked just like a normal school, pre-covid. Now they're discussing if their students should have assembly's and parties in person, in the height of the pandemic. The district does NOT listen to the concerns of the students who are saying they should not go back to normal. A lot of students are using mental health as an excuse in regards of parties and events. Should the district not be thinking of the students who are anxiously awaiting to go back to school? Should they not be thinking of the students who are having an extremely hard time being confined at home? If they keep their current streak up they will continue to lose respect by a lot of students. I am a very dedicated automotive student at Timpview, and due to construction in 2021, the district has denied all outside access to the autoshop, making the quality of the advanced auto classes much lower then they should be. I brought up many issues current and future, I explained that there needs to be something done so that the classes can be the best they can be for the sake of the students. The response from a couple people in this district was that 1. No student will ever be allowed to bring their car into the shop for the entirety of the construction (3-5 years), 2. It is just an "inconvenience" and "I understand your frustration", 3. There is absolutely nothing I can [am willing] to do. These responses were from the current school board president, and the vice principal of Timpview (who just happens to be in charge of the industrial wing at Timpview). To put it simply, no one cares about the Timpview auto students, no one is willing to speak up about it, when students like me put a lot of effort into trying to get them to care, they get shut down. The consequences of this continued poor management from people who could care less about the students can very quickly go to the extent of the Timpview automotive shop getting shut down. The guy at the dock was plenty nice, I was over an hour early for my appointment but he unloaded me right away! The parking lot is right n next to the schools baseball diamond and cars parked everywhere. Driveway wasn't built for us trucks, but there wasn't a stop sign, so lawn maintenance must be out there after every delivery. Construction on both sides of the block, so it was kinda tricky THIS time. But it's still downtown, so it's gotta be a skilled professional, anyways. And its no problem for guys like...
