still no vegan /non-dairy options! At this point almost every other ice cream shop in town has something and many have some impressive true vegan ice cream options -- sometimes multiple flavors with rotation and sorbet options to boot!--- that are very delicious. This should be doable, but if not can we get a nice sorbet option? Besides being necessary to match the competition, non-dairy and vegan options are just a good idea at universities and help the animals, tvs planet, and some folks with allergies! Also just adds more variety. Have vegan options: Brooker's, Penguin Brothers, Handel's, Sub Zero, Bruster's, Coldstone, Baskin Robbins, Dairy Queen, Macey's, Menchies, and every single place that offers Açaí.
A good sorbet is often appealing even to hardcore dairy enthusiasts and a lot of ice cream recipes work impressively well just with a straight substitute of coconut cream for dairy cream. The new BYU Belonging office managed to cover a huge range of potential allergies by offering açaí at their recent event. Even if it's not very good, a dairy-free option would beat the other options at creamery meetups work dates, friends, family and FHE groups: fries if the grill is open or... buying a package of Oreos from the other register?
The lack of vegan/plant-based burger or other meal options also means the creamery is also falling behind the vast majority of Provo burger joints whether local or chain. Since groceries are usually priced significantly higher than anything chains and local grocery stores the grocery section has little to offer... though some students will have little option but to buy given the distinct lack of other options accessible by transportation (no BRT stop!) or walking. Creamery employees are awesome though and have excellent...
Read moreLet me start with the milkshake(s). Let this be a forewarning to all CONE-goers…milkshakes are the bane of these workers’ existence. Don’t ask how I knew that. But…since you’re wondering, I’ll tell you. Ok. Know that if you order a milkshake from Sassy Asian Man, you are setting yourself up to be the #1 opp of the creamery on 9th. Knowing this for a fact, you’d think I would have stopped ordering it. But I didn’t. In fact, I came again. And again. Every. Single. Week. For the rest of the year, I came and, oh, let me tell you, I brought friends. Wanna take a wild guess at what they ordered? Yup. Milkshakes. I was public enemy #1, I was HER. If the Creamery on 9th could post a list of their most UNwanted customers, I assure you that I and my crew would have been the first on that list. When I walked into that store, people stared because they knew. They knew what I had come for. However…a ray of sunshine through stormy clouds…like a Tylenol when I’m in pain…like an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day…there was Ari. Ari was THE IT GIRL. If you needed a sample, a single scoop, a double scoop, a MILKSHAKE, Ari was your girl. Somehow, Ari was always there to brighten my dark and cold winter days. Her smile radiated through the entire store. I’m surprised the ice cream of the Creamery didn’t melt before her radiant glow! Unfortunately, there is no more Ari. For since the twenty-second of April, she has resigned and is longer an employee of the Creamery on 9th East. But be not dismayed! The CONE will thrive again! As long as Sassy Asian Man continues to rule (manage) the Creamery, it will remain in good hands and college students everywhere will be able to forever enjoy the timeless flavor of blue...
Read moreI frequent the Creamery at least once every other week. Today was my breaking point after weeks of poor service. Burgers have frequently come out undercooked or overcooked but never just right. It takes forever to get your food, and the service is almost always garbage unless you're in the ice cream line. I have not complained until today where I was greeted with a poor attitude and sass. I was very polite when I showed the worker the very raw chicken breast my wife was served (ice cold in the middle). She offered no solution initially until she stared at me for 20 seconds and then offered to remake it. My wife was no longer hungry after having consumed raw chicken, and when I told the worker we did not want any more food, she just got annoyed, and she then she gave a very half-hearted apology.
Needless to say, I don't know if I will return, I have multiple friends who have worked there who refuse to eat anything but the ice cream because they say that food safety guidelines are not followed, and that food is ill-prepared frequently.
Also, if you're in a rush, avoid this place as it often takes them 20 minutes to get your food, and often time it comes out over or undercooked. If you have a large group, also avoid as there is almost never adequate seating for anyone.
Also the food is way too expensive for the quality you get.
If you have fond memories of eating at the Creamery, it will not live up to the nostalgia as the quality has dropped significantly in the last years. The Creamery went from being a pride of being a BYU student/alum to a greasy stain on BYUs reputation...
