Wish I would have just went to Mo’ Bettah’s… or any of the other hawaiian places around.
Mildly tasty, heavily overpriced, surprisingly under-portioned…. I will not be returning. :/
Bad things about the food Furikake garlic chicken was over cooked and super crunchy Mac salad was not just subpar, they put frozen peas and carrots in it. Why? Portion sizes were deplorable when I paid 16.95 for my two meat entree and 14.95 for a one meat entree. I would pay $9.95 in a mall’s food court for this…. And it would fit in with all the other food court food. Chicken curry was bland. Need I say more?
Bad things about the restaurant Not super welcoming. Laid back I guess, but half the staff sat in the back singing and playing ukulele while the restaurant wasn’t clean. No high chairs when we asked for one. Said something about someone suing them? Um…. You should still have high chairs in Provo where half of residents have little kids.
Good things My toddler liked the rice and the Mac salad. Great kid items. The sweet sauce on the furikake garlic chicken was good.
We love supporting local businesses. Look at my other reviews. I get it. But they need to nail it if they are going to stay in business. Especially when the restaurant is empty at 5:30pm on a Saturday. They didn’t nail it and they didn’t seem to care.
Would be happy to see a...
Read moreUtah doesn't have a shortage on Hawaiian restaurants so I was a little skeptical that this place would be any better or different than any of the competitors in the area. I've been here enough times now to give this a more heartfelt review. I've lowered the star rating down to two from the original five. The food here is still quite excellent and tasty (especially the garlic chicken). I wasn't disappointed in the flavor. However, the food here feels overpriced for the portion size compared to other local restaurants.
When you pay around $20 for a meal for one, you expect to get a lot of food. That is not the case here. Portion sizes run quite small. Other local Hawaiian restaurants offer much bigger portions for a better price. At the very least you would expect a healthy amount of the filler foods like rice or mac salad, but in all the times I've been, its a typically a few table spoons of each.
I don't mind paying top dollar for good food, but something that leaves a bad taste in my mouth is feeling over charged. The food here is GOOD, but the there are lots of other GOOD Hawaiian restaurants nearby which don't skimp on portions and leave...
Read moreI really enjoyed our food from here, as well as the environment. It felt very inviting, and I like the variety on the menu as well. My friend got the loco Moco which was very flavorful, and I got a kalua pork and teriyaki chicken plate that I thought was seasoned well. Sides and sizes were great, too!
Now, while people keep complaining about the price, I think it's perfectly acceptable for what you get. Utah for some reason is full of those who don't seem to understand the concept of a local business and what goes into one, especially during a period of inflation. If you want to support local establishments that make good food and pay their workers well, you're gonna have to fork out more than $5 for a meal. Or you can go to Taco Bell and have a date with the bathroom later. Your choice. But it's a simple quantity versus quality issue, and everyone has their own opinions on it.
I, for one, will be coming back for some more awesome Hawaiian food and...
