So, we (wife and myself) tried to get into this place before, but it was so understaffed they had to stop customers from coming in, but we made it in on March 8th. I believe they should stop making food altogether and reassess their purpose. First off, their prices are not just ridiculous, they're disgusting. They do not combine the fries with the burgers for something like a combo, nope, they believe their fries are so good that they deserve their own place on the menu. If such was the case, then a person would be inclined to go in for the fries alone. I assure you, no one would show up for their pathetic, overcooked, old-oil fries, (honestly, change the oil). So, expect to pay more for a side of unfulfilling and flavorless lament that is well below Arby's standards (does Arby's have standards?). The burgers, however, were flavorful, unfortunately, the flavor is akin to licking the bottom of a fire pit. I mean, I'm paying 15+ dollars for one cheeseburger and 13+ for the other, I'm expecting some incredible, nova-explosion of culinary ecstasy that surpasses all competitors. Alas, these burgers rank somewhere between McDonald's and your weird, drunken uncle's attempt to bbq and meet you behind the shed. To be fair, there were a lot of people both times I came in. However, I've found that many people just accept things, they don't fuss. They hope the food turns out, and if it doesn't, well, better luck next time. The burgers were not juicy, all the moisture burned out of them by what I imagine was a WW2 flamethrower. You can get a superior burger (in comparison) at In-N-Out for much less. The server kid was nice and I hope my tip went to him, but I did have to wait about an hour for the food, which wasn't worth it. The atmosphere was quaint, but again, the food isn't worth it. I give every place I go to for the first time a full chance, I don't return the food, (minus cleanliness issues), complain about the wait, or not tip. I accept it as the risk of trying something new. I don't plan on returning here ever, but sometimes occurrences and coincidences happen and you end up in places you swore off—should that occur, well, I will not be as polite. To sum up, save your money and do not eat here. If you want to eat a hockey puck that dreamt of being a burger and spend a lot of money for trash, go...
Read moreI visited Back Door Burger this past weekend. We love the taste of your food and have been coming to your restaurant for several years now, however we’re extremely disappointed in the quality of service we received and that we feel we were way over charged. I ordered the Poco Bueno burger and asked to replace the patty for the impossible patty as I’m vegetarian. The waitress said that could be done but didn’t say there would be any additional fee. She ended up charging us not only the full price of the poco bueno burger as if we had gotten the half pound angus patty - but she then charged another $3.12 to make the substitution. This has never happened before and as I’ve mentioned we frequent Back Door Burger as one of our favorite spots. We didn’t notice until we had paid and were looking at the receipt on our way to the car.
We were extremely upset as not only do we feel like that was taking advantage of the fact that I’m vegetarian, but I ended up paying way more than any one else would have. I basically paid $15 for the bread, cheese, a tiny bit of guac and pico. It was missing the poblano….and then I had go pay for my patty separately. It was absolutely ridiculous being it was only $13 for his burger and mine was nearly $19. Meat is nearly the same price if not more depending on the quality of the meat than one impossible patty (I know I buy them regularly at Costco). I go to lots of other burger places and never am charged to exchange the patty. Because of this experience, we won’t ever be returning to Back Door Burger and won’t recommend it. We seriously used to race to everyone about how they needed to try it. I can literally go to a competitor and get a vegetarian burger for $9. We came there because the burgers were different, but this is not the experience we’ve had in the past nor expected. We did raise our concerns to the guy at the cashier desk and he said there was nothing to be done even though our waitress didn’t even mention the extra change when we were ordering. Honestly disappointed in...
Read moreExcellent food. Similar to how it was explained in another review, the food has a comforting familiarity, but with some exciting twists. I had to stop and stare at my burger in amazement after one particular bite because I was so pleasantly surprised by the taste bud adventure I was sent on. (I got the Grumpy Claire.) I ordered online. Their order status screen I was sent in a confirmation email never updated from saying “new.” I hoped it’d say “in progress” or “ready” at some point after refreshing the page over and over. After 30ish minutes after my order, I call, and they told me there’s a “disconnect” between the kitchen and the online order status page, so the status that the customer sees never updates, and my order had actually been ready for a while by that point. I actually half expected to have to call to check up on the order in the first place anyway, since the whole online ordering system felt rudimentary. Since I was already expecting to have to follow up myself with a call, I wasn’t upset, but the order status page is something that should get fixed. Since my food was sitting in a carry-out box for a bit, the fries ended up soggy but they were still good. (The Cajun fries are spicy, but nothing crazy.) I recommend you hold off going until you are able to dine in, to ensure your food is as crisp and fresh as possible. I’m definitely holding out to have friends or family to go with for next time so I can have the freshest experience. Kinda awkward to get the burger joint itself—it’s like a hole-in-the-wall... within a hole-in-the-wall: you have to walk through an axe/hatchet-throwing business area to get to the burger joint. (This is actually pretty cool to have both businesses combined for a night out.) The employees were very nice, both on phone and in person, and the chef obviously knew what...
