Jíbaro’s Borinquen Restaurant in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, is an absolute gem. From start to finish, our experience was nothing short of amazing. Conveniently located right across the street from the beach, the restaurant offers ample parking, both in front and in the back near the benches. The menu is extensive, offering something for everyone, and the food was simply exquisite—easily one of the best meals I’ve had in the Luquillo area. Every dish was prepared to perfection, showcasing authentic Puerto Rican flavors. Our waitress, Blanca, was outstanding. She was attentive, kind, and on top of everything, even with how busy the restaurant was. Despite visiting on a Thursday, the place was bustling, and it’s clear why—it’s a favorite in the area for good reason. We chose to sit on the second floor, which offered a beautiful view of the beach and added to the relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere. The combination of the fantastic food, great service, and scenic location made this an unforgettable dining experience. If you’re in Luquillo, Jíbaro’s Borinquen Restaurant is a must-visit. It’s the perfect spot for amazing food with a beachside view. Definitely 5 stars!

Can’t say the food was amazing. It lacked salt and some ‘sazón’. We ordered chuletas can can, and even though the portion was big, it was meh. When the server came he explained that if we ordered any plate all the of them would include 2 sides, and unless we ordered a mofongo as a side which was an extra $5, the rest of them would be free (included in the food). The server brought the food over, but even though the two tables next to us were his as well, he never once asked how we were doing or if we needed something. When we decided to pay, after waiting for 15 minutes for a cup of mayo ketchup that never came, they decided to charge $28 for our chuleta can can meal due to ordering arroz con gandules as one of the sides which was supposed to be INCLUDED as presented by the server. Also, before paying, the server wanted to charge $5 if we were paying with a card, which was ridiculous and not said beforehand. After $85 for two meals, we can definitely say we’ll never be back. And be on the lookout if you visit this place, they might charge you money out of nowhere…

Luquillo local here! The service is great. They’re friendly and warm. HOWEVER, their food, unfortunately, is only good enough to impress tourists visiting. I ordered a penne pasta with skirt steak while my husband went for a more traditional palette ordering a carne frita with rice and beans. After waiting for 1+ hr, I was met with a plate of pasta that was WAY overcooked with a mushy texture (so much so that the noodles were spliting), flavorless steak, and a curdled sauce that tasted like milk and plastic. I asked my husband if I could try the carne frita and it was underwhelming and bland. The only flavor it had came from the sauce. As a puerto rican born and raise, I know my flavors and unfortunately this was not it and overall the food does not live up to the name Jibaros as it did not embrace our puerto rican culture. I suggest they remove the pasta if they can’t make a decent one. I’ll show the pasta with splitting noodles and curdled sauce.

My friends and I (7 people) went to this place yesterday (15sept2025) to have dinner. The waitress, in the beginning, was ok. After ordering some drinks (by the way, there was no drink menu), a roach flew to our table, and one of my friends screamed. The waitress stepped out and said, "Are you guys done?" Implying that my friend was making a scene just because. My friend has a roach phobia, by the way. Then, when we asked for the check, the total was $179.62 on the receipt. However, when we decided to pay using a credit card, somehow the total on the machine changed from $179.62 to $186.80. We asked about that difference, and the waitress said, "Oh, there's a $4 charge for using the card". In reality, the difference was $7.18, not $4, so we asked why the difference, but the waitress couldn't explain where she got that number from. So she randomly increased the total from $179.62 to $186.80 for a fee without disclosing the info. After not shedding any light regarding the charge, the waitress brought the manager. When the manager came, he explained that "they used to disclose that information but not anymore" because "other businesses in the area do the same." In conclusion, they charged us for a card use fee that was not disclosed and was a random fee chosen by the waitress (she said $4, but it was $7.18). Really dishonest. They ended up charging us only the $179.62, and the waitress said, "This time around, we will cover for that'll card use fee, but next time you guys have to pay for it." Well... there's no next time, and we didn't give any tip for being dishonest and sort of rude. The food was okay, but nothing out of this world. Sangria was good, and the passion fruit mojito was good too.

Furthermore, after the roach had stepped on the table and flown away, we asked for a cloth to clean it up. The waitress came and instead of cleaning the table, she said, "Here it is (the cloth)" like "you clean it."

Long story short, really dishonest manager and waitress. Honestly, you have better options around the area without going through this ambiguity in card use fees and unnecessary back and forth to discuss something that wasn't disclosed previously. We understand people have good and bad days, and customer service is sometimes challenging; however, there's no space...

Dishonest. We had a nice lunch for four adults on a Monday holiday (we were 4 visitors from 🇪🇸🇲🇽🇵🇷) and the bill including taxes was just over $152. I asked the waitress to add a tip of 18% for her and she returned me a copy/voucher of my payment for just over $186. which Is quite a Lot over The 18%😱. First of all, tips have to be calculated based on the net total, not the total with taxes. It's a robbery to add 18% tip to a gross total! You don't tip the tax! It's the total of what is consumed in food! Not after adding the PR Govnt. tax "IVU". And secondly, it is dishonest to charge more than 20% (WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION AND HAVING told -THE CUSTOMER- TO ADD an 18% not a 20%). I say above "more than 20% in tip" because the difference between $152 and $186 ($34) is much more than the correct calculation of The 18% of The Net of $152. before IVU. All this happened WITHOUT saying anything to the customers. Dishonest. Tourist trap👎😡 Then, when I realized their "mistake", I returned and told/questioned gently to the waitress and the (apparently) manager, and they simply answered me that "it's a matter of the "Clover" (?) And said, "oh, we are so sorry sir". But they didn't correct their dishonest overcharge. They didn't return The difference. They did not credit my Card what was dishonestly overcharged nor did they refund me anything. I was simply robbed. Shamelessly. Won't ever go back to such that kind of unreliable Nor serious type of Business. It's also good to add that The whole so famous called "Luquillo kioskos" image AND Ambiance was quite a sad negative impression : The whole área Is a super trashy, dirty, sloppy, noisy Street. Few of The around 60 "Restaurants" (kioskos) inside may be so-so, AND food just ok, but The overall Ambiance Is far from a nice destination. It Made us remember any kiosko on a beach in Bangladesh or Haití. But that's what Puertorricans consider great tourist destination/attraction. Over valued, over priced Luquillo 👎 Added to this dishonest behaviour AND very badly managed restaurant Customer service really gave us a very different impression of what the PR Govnt. Tourism advertising campaigns try to sell when appealling visitors. Far from exotic delicious destination. Opposite from...

This was the worst dining experience I have ever had in my life. We walk in with a party of 9 at around 615pm. We got our order taken by 630pm by our waitress (who we saw this ONE time and then magically disappeared for the rest of the meal), and had to wait 30 minutes for our DRINKS (simple beers, sodas, and waters).

FURTHERMORE, sticky brown liquid started dripping from the ceiling and onto one of the people in our table (I wish I was making this up…). When we alerted one of the waiters (not our own, because we still have no clue where she is at this point), he literally SHRUGGED at us and said “just move the chair.”

At 730, we started getting antsy about our food, which reminder, we had ORDERED at 630. We flagged down the manager (I wish I got his name because I would have had him fired in a heartbeat) in thick black glasses, who, in the rudest attitude ever, told us our order had only been for “36 minutes” and started getting unnecessarily defensive and mean. So, do the math. If we ordered our food and drinks at 630 but at 730 the order had only been in for 36…

At this point, we have an excursion booked that we needed to make it to, so we asked the “manager” where our food was and if we could take it to go. He says “it’ll be ready on 8-10 minutes. They’re cooking it and all they need to do is plate it.” After 10 minutes, we walk up to the kitchen and ultimately pay for the food (they are lucky we didn’t just leave), get the food in to go boxes (they informed us they didn’t have enough time to make the French fries. Like we ordered seafood and FRIES took the longest???). Once we start complaining in front of the other customers, the “manager’s” demeanor completely changes, putting on a disgustingly fake smile and thanking us for our patience, being over the top helpful all of a sudden.

WHAT MAKES MATTERS WORSE, when we opened the to go containers in the car, most of our sides were missing. When we finally got to eat the food, I was horribly disappointed by how bland and boring everything was. Also, tiny portions for the price. Even if we are tourists, no one should receive...
