We had an absolutely fantastic time during our visit to Racine. Vero International Cuisine delivered.
The atmosphere was incredible - a great place to bring a date or have a night out with friends. You're first welcomed by a very large sit at bar with crushed glass and backlite countertops. As you walk further back you're greeted by a softly lit dining room and dark wood tables - each personally lit with a small light.
The food was wonderful. They offer themselves as a tapas place, but honestly the food portions are large enough to be entrees. They give you a small bowl of plantains and salsa to get you started and it was delicious.
Our server Erica (may be spelled differently) was very sweet, accommodating, an soft spoken. She took the time to make us feel comfortable and gave wonderful recommendations on what to try.
We ended up ordering the Korean BBQ Duck Wontons, Honey Garlic Chicken, Jamaican Braised Goat, and Pan Seared Scallops. All were delicious and again the portions were large and surprising. We also ordered one of their bottles of red wine. It was an incredible deal and only cost us $30 for the bottle. Others were priced similarly, but for roughly $5/ drink you can't go wrong. For desert we tried the carrot cake - which I think may have been a special - I can't remember. It was good and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the best I've had.
Before we left for the evening they offered to give us a quick look at their upstairs party lounge. It was beautiful and well received. The bowed glass terrarium was incredible and the opposite side had beautiful soft upholstery seats. I'm sad I didn't snag a photo of this side. Each side had their own bar - If we were local, I could definitely see this as an amazing 'upscale' party pad for not a...
Read moreI celebrated my Birthday here on Monday. Thank goodness Vero was an option as most places are closed on Monday. This was my 1st Visit of many more! I Love the way the menu is set up with small appetizer sized shareable dishes so you can order many and share! This wasn't the highlight.... the delectable food bursting with a unique and extremely wonderful medley of flavors in every single bite! We started with the "Bourbon Candied Brisket" , "Exotic Fried Empanadas" and the "Island Shrimp" then added the "Saffron Shroom Toast" and "Cucumber Sliders" I can't explain the flavor explosions involved with every bite! Only regret is that I didn't take photos of the beautiful presentation and deliciousness we experienced so I could share with others. I am very impressed at the quality and uniqueness of the items on this menu. For the (3) of us, the bill came to around $80 and that included a beer and High Ball. The service was great and the server was very knowledgeable of the menu items and drink specialties as well. The Hostess was especially inviting when we walked in the door. This is definitely a new treasure here in Racine to enjoy! Highly Recommend if you like high quality, unique dishes from around the world you can not get anywhere...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I decided to stop in and have dinner on a Tuesday evening after realizing that the Thai place nextdoor was temporarily closed. Upon arriving we were promptly seated in the bottom dining room alongside two other couples having dinner. Although the man who greeted us seemed pleasant and excited about the restaurant, our service wasn't the best. My water sat unfilled for the majority of our meal and our server seemed tired & preoccupied. The service doesn't factor into this review, as I believe people should go to a restaurant for the food, not so much the front of the house staff.
Unfortunately the food still only racks up 3 stars. I had the pork shank and my girlfriend had the jerk chicken. The salads that initially came out looked fairly lifeless like the greens were nearing their best-by date. The pork was tender and well cooked, although very one-note (black pepper). The accompanying rice and veggies were overdone and the jus didn't do much to offset that. The chicken was inexcusably dry and not anything to write home about.
Overall, for what we paid, we walked out disappointed. For being touted as a fine dining restaurant, with prices resembling those of a similar restaurant in Chicago, Vero definitely falls short of my...
