Fresh Fish Market — Restaurant in Rahway

I've been looking for an on-the-go seafood restaurant in this area for a while so you can imagine my excitement when I walked past FFM. They offer a pretty robust menu including my favorites: crab legs, pan-seared scallops, and fried snapper.

For my first visit, I opted for the pan-seared scallops which comes with steamed vegetables and fried rice.

Overall, it was subpar.

And before you think I'm being harsh - the steamed vegetables consisted of only two lonely little broccoli stems; the fried rice was so-so, probably because a lot of the veggies were a little TOO fried; and the scallops were seared perfectly but had a little TOO much lemon zest. And in order to have corn on the cob, I had to order a side order instead of substituting out the rice.

Would I go back? Yes, but next time I think I'll try the steamed platters and report...

Friday night past I had a substantial order for 4 people, and an additional item that totaled about an extra $20.00. I prepaid for this order the night before to ensure my order would be on time. When I got my order home it was short the $20 item. I called 7 times and they never answered the phone, i went there yesterday and the man i needed to talk to was not there. So i went back today , i explained this to him in the politest way possible, untill he became indignant and asked me if I was calling him a liar , I suggested people make mistakes and he told me they can look it up on the video and it would show the extra bag (there was an extra bag that contained biscuits and a handful of mustard packages) . This is the third time I’ve visited since the opening. They came highly recommended but I have a complaint.

While the place is clean, customer service pleasant, the fish is fresh and breading/frying perfect, they don’t clean the fish before frying. You can taste the consistency and slime from the fish not being cleaned properly and therefore ruining the experience of the fish.

The fish is quality but I feel like you have to request they clean the fish before frying.

When they first opened I said perhaps they will improve but a few years later and the issue still exists.

It’s a nice spot but I hope they sure up this lose end to have a better...
