First I will say the food and drinks were good and it is at a good location on Morgan Street (hence the 2.5 stars). However, my friend girl made it there right before me and she stood and waited for about 10 minutes to be seated at the "Hostess Desk" at the sign that reads "Please Wait to be Seated". Finally she was seated although she was asked was she waiting to be seated. Ummmmmm.........yes that is why she was standing there because the sign said "Please Wait to be Seated". So that's strike ONE.
Next, once I made it and sat down we waited for about 10 maybe 15 minutes and the Manager asked us if we had placed our drink orders and we let her know no one had even come to our table to ask us for our drink orders and I mentioned that my friend had barely been seated. She mentioned something about being short staffed which I understand but as a customer that's not our fault and it should not affect how the business is conducted. So that's strike TWO.
We received our food pretty quickly so that was good however as I was about to pray over my food I look down and there is a hair on top of my omelet. I usually would take a picture and attach it to the review but I was so shocked I forgot to snap the picture. Our server apologized, took the food back, spoke with the Manager about it and asked if I wanted a fresh new omelet and grits made and I said yes. Normally I would have said no and went to a different restaurant but my friend's food was fine and we shouldn't have to leave because they are not handling the food properly. So that is strike THREE. In the meanwhile the Manager came over and apologized and also said the Chef apologized as well. She also stated that the staff does wear hair nets but regardless it still happened. So at least they seemed like they felt bad. I received the fresh food (the redo) pretty quickly, looked it over, ate it and it was good.
Then we received our checks, paid for them but when my change was brought back I was short changed about $10, after I double checked to make sure my math was correct, I called over our Server and she confirmed she was looking at the wrong amount because they did discount my omelet 50%, so I was grateful for that. But she was looking at the amount on the receipt before the discount. So I gave it all back to her along with the receipt and she fixed it and brought back the correct change. She apologized yet again for the error. So that is strike FOUR.
Will we be returning to Good Day Good Night? NO we will not. Do I recommend Good Day Good Night? Maybe?? Just double check your food and the check. Our Server Alex was nice and professional so I still left her a tip even after all of the strikes because it wasn't all her fault. They did try to make up for it and they were apologetic. However, I expected better service, attention to detail and cleanliness.
I am more disappointed than mad because this was supposed to be a restaurant that is on point. Mistakes happen it is all in how you respond and fix the issue. So I think they handled it well but no customer wants to have to deal with that kind of situation and should not have a bad experience. Maybe we went on an off day but as I said before as a customer that is not our fault and the business should continue to be...
Read moreI've eaten at Good Day Good Night quite a few times throughout the years and I've never been swayed enough one way or another to properly take the time and sit down and give a review until now. Before, the food was perfectly serviceable for a hotel restaurant. It had common plates and was a perfectly whelming experience that may have been a little pricey for what you got. But now?
Now I would argue Good Day Good Night is a true gem in Raleigh's culinary crown. The new menu by Chef Devin is really something special. Fusion is always a big buzzword, but you can tell each item on the streamlined menu has been so meticulously crafted with care. Cornbread inspired by their grandparents, andoullie croquettes, and probably the best shrimp and grits I've ever had in my life, and I just straight up hate shrimp and grits on any other day. This isn't your usual hotel restaurant fare. They did not have to go this hard, and yet they have someone that detests the very idea of bananas, wanting to try their banana creme brulee all over again for the very first time.
The plating is amazing, the staff are all super friendly and incredibly meticulous, and Amanda was one of the best servers we've ever had. The cocktails weren't watered down and reasonably priced. Literally the only negative I can possibly come up with, is that the kale slaw just wasn't for me. And that's absolutely personal preference.
If you haven't been to Good Day Good Night recently, you need to take the time to experience this new menu. You'll be glad you gave the restaurant another chance. And if you've never been before, please take the chance to experience one of the most underappreciated restaurants in a booming culinary capital. Good Day Good Night is really a cut above and I can only hope to see how the menu...

I had high hopes for Good Day Good Night in Raleigh, but unfortunately, my family and I left disappointed after our visit on Friday, October 25th. While the cocktails were enjoyable, the food was a major letdown.
I ordered the Peruvian chicken, which I was really looking forward to, only to find it raw on the inside. Although the kitchen prepared a new dish, it arrived long after my family had finished their meals, which were nothing to rave about either. My wife had the salmon, my son ordered the burger, and my daughter tried the salmon ceviche. To be honest, the ceviche was more of a mystery than a delight—I’m not sure the chef understands what a ceviche is supposed to be.
The service from our waiter was great, and they eventually comped my meal after realizing the issue, but the interaction with the restaurant manager was uncomfortable and unprofessional. After learning I had sent my chicken back, she walked past the table, shouting a quick apology and offering a measly 10% off my dish—a whole $2.20. Not only was this gesture underwhelming, but the way it was handled felt insincere and disrespectful. A proper conversation and genuine apology would have been appreciated.
The space itself is cool, and the atmosphere could have potential, but the staff seriously needs more training. The manager should be better equipped to handle situations like this with care, and the kitchen staff needs to focus on sending out properly cooked, safe meals. I regret not telling them to forget the dish entirely, as it wasn’t worth the trouble, and I wasn’t confident in the kitchen’s abilities after that.
Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant and definitely won’t...
