My first time at Elsie's and I have been living in the Red Bank area all my life.
I decided, from multiple lackluster experiences with Jersey Mikes Subs, that I would try and find a new sub shop.
I was tired of overpriced sub sandwiches that were mostly bread. Welcome to the world of Jersey Mikes.
Walked into Elsie's this morning an hour prior to the lunch crowd. The place was empty, which was nice since I wanted to avoid waiting in line. Wasn't sure where to park. Put a quarter in the meter just outside the store.
The woman behind the counter was very nice. We talked about the winter weather as she prepared my sandwiches. I ordered two Roast Beef BLTs (one half, one whole).
When I got home to share the meal with my Mother, we were both greatly impressed by the quality of the sandwich. Bread was very fresh -- crispy outside and chewy body. A good amount of Roast Beef was laid upon the sandwich. It definitely was a much better sub than what I usually got at Jersey Mikes.
Have to say I enjoyed the service, speaking with the woman behind the counter, and the great set of sandwiches that she made.
I wouldn't say this is cheaper than Jersey Mikes or other places, but I believe one gets a better quality...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreJuly 2024 It's a Saturday afternoon, just tired of the same old thing. Then someone says, "Let's go to Elsie's and get a pickle sandwich. We arrived, and you need to immediately know this place is very small. All but 1 table only seats 2 people. In the window, there is a table that seats 4. You can break out in a sweat sitting there. But it seams that the majority of their business is taken out. It's very clean, I don't think there was a restroom (could be wrong). This place is definitely on the expensive side. Look at the website for prices. Not handicap friendly, only street parking. There is no room for high chairs. The front door is something out of the 60s. The pickle sandwich is very good ! The rest was...
