One of the better places in Redlands, where I grew through high school, and definitely much better option than what we had growing up. But this place feels like it's digressing and I can think of at least 3 better options -- Citrus and Grove (food and cocktails), the oyster place in the alley behind state (food, wine and environment) and Copehouse (cocktails). We ordered a medium rare burger and it was way over cooked. I ordered the last word cocktail with mezcal and the bartender swore it was his favorite and knew how to make it, but way too acidic, no balance between the ingredients and just a poorly executed cocktail. Couldn't finish it because it was so tart. Then we tried to order 2 cocktails since it was last call only to have the bartender tell us they can't sell us 2 drinks at the end. Seconds later we hear the other bartender ask the customers 2 seats from us if they wanted to double up on drinks since it's last call. We ask our bartender about that and he says he actually didn't have amaretto (an ingredient for the 2nd cocktail we ordered) and not that he couldn't serve 2 drinks at the end. What's the point of lying to a customer. Just tell us that. You're in the service industry for a reason. There are no cocktails, whiskeys, spirits, or beers you're serving that customers can't get elsewhere. The service is usually a distinguishing factor and The State fails in that respect from my experience. For those who may wondering if this is based on just one visit. It's not. I've been there about 10 times, most before they were closed for construction. The service and cocktails were inconsistent but they were still getting their program up and running and felt like they were trying to find their niche. It didn't feel fair to share that review then. But now they've had more than enough time to get that all resolved but it feels like it will be that way for the team. Appreciate the ambition but the skillset and execution is lacking. The new decor and lay out looks amazing though.

I recently visited Redlands for the first time in 45 years of living in so cal, I know I know…what the heck took me so long?!! I don’t have an answer for that…maybe it was meant to be for the time I went?🤷🏻‍♂️But I digress, I have to say I’m really really impressed with downtown Redlands. I didn’t have a chance to really check it out like I wanted to so I’ll definitely be back. We were starving men looking for a place to eat, we had no agenda, no spot picked out and no direction where to eat but I I’m pretty sure this place picked us! We walked by The State in our indecisiveness of trying to choose where to eat and I’m really glad we went with the The State. First off, five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️for playing fantastic music!! The vibe is great with a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff all seemed very professional and more then that just friendly. Our waitress was Jill and what a sweetheart she was to us. She’s so engaging and very friendly and gave us fantastic service. I went with her recommendation of I believe it’s called their Stack burger with a side of tempura battered onion rings 🤤 That burger paired with those rings was on point and definitely at the top of my burger experiences. Jill brought us a couple beers to try, Modern Times black beer to be exact. It was fantastic. It complimented my meal extremely well. My boy Nick, had the braised short rib tacos with a spicy aïoli sauce on the side. The tacos were good but I liked Jill’s recommendation the best! Thanks Jill! My thoughts on The State are pretty obvious. I’d go back again for sure. This is a great laid back place with great music, food and staff. Thanks again to the staff and Jill for making us feel welcomed and for great friendly service. Happy eating Fam!

After two visits to The State I've had a variety of items across the menu. I tried the Short Rib Poutine with a fried egg, the 16oz Bone-In Ribeye, the Truffle Burger,  Lobster Mac and Cheese, and the Happy Hour Short Rib Street Tacos along with various coctails. For the most part, the food was okay. I felt the short rib tacos desperately needed a sauce. The mac n cheese was good, nothing special. I actually wish it had been more cheesy. I tried to record a "cheese pull" video and there wasn't enough cheese to be noticeable, more like a cheese sauce opposed to melted cheese. I had different issues with the poutine. While there was lots of cheese, it was already cooled down on top and returning to a solid state by the time it hit the table. I also ordered an over easy fried egg on top and that egg was dead, just cooked through and through. However, two different servers offered to make another one and took it off the bill, so that was nice. No complaints about the amount of meat, there was plenty. The ribeye was cooked well, I just didn't care for the rub they used. I think it had some kind of chipotle overtones and I'm not a fan of chipotle. The shining star of my experience was the truffle burger. It was phenomenal! The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was juicy and delicious! It really took the cake both visits. I would go back just for the burger. The drinks were also excellently prepared and presented. Overall, it was a pretty average experience. I  expect there to be a few hits and misses in a dining experience, hence the three star rating. For more food reviews and pictures follow me on Instagram @Aimee.Eats_

I have come here many times with many different people, same result everytime absolutely amazing! No place in inland empire can hold a candle to this place! The owner is incredibly engaged in his operation, and is aware of every customer that comes through his doors and is so pleasant to be around. I recommend getting the blue collar burger with a kentucky side car and finishing with some absinthe. You won't go wrong when you decide to eat at the state on state!

I've been an frequent customer of the State going on two years now and every time the food still amazes me! I have pretty much tried every single there on the menu aside from drinks and let me tell you this, they can't do anything wrong. Do you know how hard it is to find a place where there isn't a single thing that doesn't taste bad? I mean, I know nobody is perfect, but until the day I get terrible food, these guys are perfection in my eyes! Oh did I mention the owner gets on his hands and knees and will actually clean the floors in front of a packed restaurant? Helping bus tables, serve food, cash out, take complaints and compliments all while running a business at the same time! If every manager/owner were like Billy, Will and Michael, there would be better restaurants throughout the Inland Empire! I can't wait for their new location in Victoria Gardens in Rancho.

Some tips if you didn't read them already. Its not on the menu, but order the Blue Collar Burger and tell them Ross sent you, they will make sure it happens, its their best burger they have along with their Drunken Pig burger! Bacon Wrapped Dates are to die for and a must try! You don't like dates? Neither do I, but I love these! No matter what you try, you I'm sure you will like it. And yes they do get busy on Saturdays and Sundays for brunch, but busy restaurants don't get busy by serving crappy food, so don't believe some of the reviews. Trust me, and how many times i've been here! You won't regret it!

Thank you State staff for treating us like family and providing amazing customer service and amazing food every single time we've come in!...

have never received such horrible service! We went to celebrate a birthday and were in a good sized group. We arrived 30 min. later than everyone else due to our work schedules along with more of our friends. It took the waitress several minutes to get there and the first thing she said to me was, you only have 20 minutes. Apparently there is a time cap on the tables, (90min. Seriously! )..that was not disclosed when the reservation was made, but it was too late to make a change. This was a Wednesday night, not a Friday or Saturday. I tried to order a drink, but it never arrived. The rest of the group had ordered drinks and food. Most of the drinks never arrived. A number of the dishes did not come out until after our 20 minute warning was given. Those that were "lucky" enough to get their food in time to scarf it down before our time was up, said it was mediocre at best and not worth it. I tried to speak to the manager, but he was rude and dismissive. He would not even come to our table to speak with us when we were clearly dissatisfied. The waitress was argumentative and rude. She said that it is not fair to the waitresses to have a table occupied for too long, when they could serve multiple people. So that tells me they are more concerned with tips and high turnover than good service. Not to mention, it was uncomfortably hot and stuffy. The funny thing is that they missed out. We are a group of business owners and professionals, not a group of unruly college students who would've sat for hours with one appetizer among us. We would've ordered enough food and drinks to make it worth it and we are a group of big tippers. We took our business across the street to Darby's where they were happy to serve us for as long as we wanted to stay and we tipped our servers well. I am not a person who writes reviews, but am just so taken back by the extremely poor customer service, that I felt compelled to let other people hear about our experience. Needless to say, The State is a never again for us! & the State has no business on State street as far as...
