A "zero" thats what Tropea deserves from our experience(no option to give less than one star). Our family has been anxiously awaiting the new location opening for this restaurant. In its old location we could never remember it as a dining out option, but with its new location we knew we would be eating there as soon as it opens.
But after our experience today(3-19-2016 Saturday @ 5:50pm we will not patronize this restaurant an will not recommend it to others.
We called beforehand to make sure we did not need a reservation, found out not needed so we walked down to the restaurant. Upon arriving. There was a lady in front of us who was waiting for her husband and the hostess was already attending to her so we waited patiently. When she left we were next in line. But another young lady came in door and hostess attending to her while we were clearly standing right in front of him. There was no way for him not to "not see us".
I only have to take this as a race issue. I am tired of this in Redmond. I am white yet my husband is not an my son is mixed. I was disappointed so bad and my son was devastated. He has autism and loooooves Italian and we had plan this night put because of his birthday. But because this hostess was either being racist or had never had a hostess job before, I mean it has to be race because there is only a arms length of space right in the door when you come in, you just cant "not see a family of three.
"Prices subject to change based on attitude".....great sign to have in front of business.......very classy.......should be ....we only serve white people. Minorities of any other race I highly suggest others think twice before eating at this restaurant. They obvious think they can pick and choose who eats there.
I'll stick to eating in Bellevue even though I live in Redmond. Oh and thanks for ruining my sons birthday dinner its not often we get out for a nice meal because of the complexity of my sons Autism. He doesn't take change well and could not understand why we were not eating his favorite food, Italian.
You may think oh we just lost one customer, but with my and my husbands connections with the disability and minority community, you may have lost way...
Read moreWe were apprehensive walking into an empty restaurant during prime time but gave it a try based on their google reviews. By the end of the night, we all regretted waking into this restaurant. I am compelled to inform other patrons about this establishment because their review ratings do not match up at all.
To start with, our server brought us a rosé without ever mentioning that the only rosé they have is sparkling rosé. And when asked for a specific cocktail, she was overwhelmed and couldn't relay the proper drink to the bartender. Well, perhaps our server is new and so we decided to move on without getting the drinks we wanted.
We ordered house salad and steamed mussels and clams as an appetizer. Salad was overwhelmingly acidic and drenched in their house dressing. Mussels and clams were not fresh. They were overly cooked and dried out. I ordered their house specialty seafood risotto and to my dismay, it was so awful. All the dishes were plated nicely but don’t be fooled by the looks. Everything else in the mix did not taste fresh. Scallops were the worst. It was inedible like rubbery pieces. It tasted almost like some of the shellfish were cooked days ahead and got thrown into the seafood mix. I expect quality food when I’m spending $42 for a plate.
To our biggest dismay, pasta dishes were overcooked and not even worth writing about. We were so dumbfounded judging by the reviews on google. We expect reasonable food quality for a 4.5 rating. This establishment did nothing for us. My husband is Italian American and I’ve traveled and lived in Italy for months. I think I can safely convey what decent Italian food should taste like. Italians are so proud of their food and they’ll be ashamed that this restaurant...
Read moreSo we have been eating at Tropea at least monthly or every two months for the last 5 years. I love the food here and have ended up celebrating some birthdays here as well. There was an incident a couple of years ago with the owner himself which did not sit right with me( he thought he was being funny when I was checking to ensure my dish was vegetarian) but that did not stop us from eating here just because the food is awesome and the rest of the staff have always been great. In the last year, we have been exclusively doing take outs and it was almost like nothing had changed. Food was still good and they also have a ordering system on their website now. We picked up our dinner here tonight and for the first time it left us thoroughly disappointed. Tropea has always been generous with their portions but this time it felt like they were cutting corners. Usually a pasta dish used to be too much for me to finish in one go but today it felt like they served us almost 30% less and I had to fill up on bread to feel full. I would suggest the restaurant revise their prices instead of cutting down in their portion sizes. We will be back soon to see if this was a one off but unfortunately during the pandemic I have seen more than one restaurant cut corners to the extent we have had to rethink going there. I certainly hope that’s not...
