Ruined my anniversary, that is not far off. I took the time to plan an evening while visiting Santa Monica and staying at the Hilton LXR resort. So I made a reservation through the website. I notated the anniversary and window seating for sunset. Planned the reservation at 6:45 which is 30-40 minutes before. Showed up at 6:37, were greeted with happy anniversary and they said that they would accommodate window seating as requested. Told it would be just a bit. That bit turned into seating at 7:30. So my wife is already upset. We traveled 45 min just for this restaurant to wait another 45 minutes and miss the sunset completely. Then it only got better, a worthless apology by the seater and no one came to the table for a long time other than a bus boy to give us warm water. At 7:51 we finally got our waitress. I ordered a beer and my wife wanted the mojito flight but was told it was for 2. Waitress left and then I thought why can't they do it for one, so I asked when she came back. The waitress said she would ask. Later she came back and said the manager said that was only for 2 not 1. At this time I was more pissed, being in Hospitality in my younger years I know that managers have the ability to do what they need to make guests happy. So then we ordered our main course and pre-ordered the dessert (lava cake) per the waitress recommendation. We finished our main courses at 8:33. I looked at the table and realized not one item had been bussed from the table 2 beer glasses, bread basket etc. It is now 8:51, still no bused table or desert (remember we pre-ordered). Finally at 8:52 the waitress finally cleared some of the items and said she would be back with dessert. 9:02 cleared another plate but left dirty drink glasses - I asked her where the desert is again, she left. 9:10 dessert brought and I asked for the check asap since our other plans were slowly being crushed. 9:16 I received a check, gave her my card immediately and reminded her of my urgency. She left and checked on 2 other tables and took an order before processing my check. They did comp the desert. I actually did not tip, a first for me. I never have had such a bad experience at a restaurant at this level. From seating to service it was horrible, however the food was good. I would also like to pass on in 2021. We ate at a chart house in Waikiki and got 5 star service, which was partially the reason I chose chart house in redondo beach and I knew where it was since I have eaten there as a walk in a few times over the years. So I will always remember my experience and will continue to let others know. I informed the bell captain at our resort of my experiences that I had while staying there. Those included great recommendations by the bell staff, and my choice which turned out to be something I will never forget. Nothing worse than disappointing your wife on your...
Read moreThe Chart House used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but it has gone downhill. The experience I had on January 1st was subpar to say the very least. We were celebrating my father's birthday, we had reservations for 10 at 5:30. We were seated somewhat promptly, then the prolonged waiting and overall disappointment with the entire experience began. We waited a ridiculous amount of time to put in a drink order, then it was another ridiculous amount of time to put in our food order, and then you guessed it a ridiculous amount of time to receive anything we ordered. As I said, we had reservations at 5:30 and at 6:46 nobody had received any soups or salads, a few appetizers had come out around 6:30ish. When the entrees finally came they were either overcooked or undercooked. I honestly thought I was eating salmon jerky. None of the prime rib orders were cooked properly. The shrimp pasta lacked flavor, even though we were assured that it was very garlicky. My 6yr old nephew was eating croutons from people's salads because he was hungry, as we all were, and his burger was taking forever. We couldn't give him bread because, drum roll...the bread machine broke. However, our server kept telling us the bread was baking and would be right out. Well after going to speak to the manager to let him know that we aren't getting bread and we aren't getting refills on water for heaven's sake, he said the bread machine broke and he was trying to fix it. They were overbooked and grossly understaffed! Trying to get water took an act of Congress and forget refills on other drinks. Some got refills and some did not. Our server was so overwhelmed and trying his best but our experience suffered because of the lack of staff. I don't hold anything against our server he was literally sweating trying to handle way too many tables. The manager Michael is who I have an issue with. When he was told about the terrible service he became combative and said that he helped with refills. He brought out ONE round of water for 10 people ONCE, and that was after we waved him over because we hadn't seen our server in a long time. The manager's attitude was disgusting. No apology from him, he took a discount off the bill, which is what someone in my party wanted. I wanted an apology for the service and the awful experience on my father's birthday. I appreciate the discount, but that's not what I wanted. A sincere sorry that your dining experience fell short of the usually high standards that the Chart House USED to be known for would have been enough for me. He showed that he didn't care about our experience and certainly didn't care if we came back,...
Read moreMy husband and I got married on November 25, 2017 and had our wedding reception at the Chart House Redondo Beach. I am a Hermosa Beach native, Arizona transplant. My husband is an Arizona native, Florida transplant. When deciding where to get married, when knew it had to be by the water. We ultimately chose Hermosa Beach as our wedding destination because of the beauty and charm my hometown offers. We were working with a small budget, and were struggling to find a reception venue that could work with our needs. I contacted the Chart House, half expecting a negative response due to our budgetary restrictions. I could not have been more excited- and pleased- with the warm and positive email I received back from their sales manager, Nicole Lazo. From beginning to end, Nicole and her staff at the Chart House did an incredible job. I cannot say enough great things about the Chart House Redondo Beach, and their sales manager Nicole. One great thing about the Chart House is they are really flexible and accommodating. My husband and I were on a tight budget, and the Chart House allowed my brother to make our wedding cake- and some small passed desserts- for no charge. Additionally, Nicole worked with us on the menu- and available private party areas- to find exactly what we needed, within our budget. I didn’t feel like we were forced to order sub-par items or beverages- if anything, I feel the exact opposite! Additionally, she offered to make us ADORABLE and classy custom cocktail menus for our special day. She was agreeable to us bringing our own décor and music, and was very organized. There was one minor slip-up on my end: the day before our wedding, the the friends who I had enlisted to setup the décor for our reception became unavailable. I was in panic mode, but Nicole immediately offered to do it herself (which is not part of her job). She did an incredible job, and saved the day! The service was impeccable, the food and beverages were incredible, and the Sunset/America’s Cup rooms were gorgeous. The view from the rooms cannot be matched! We had 4 servers working our party, and I don’t think there was ever a moment where one of our guests needed something. One of the servers was so nice to make- and save- small plates for my husband and me, as she knew we were busy “working the room” and chatting with our guests. We had such a memorable and beautiful evening, and I am so thankful for Nicole and the Chart House team for making it happen. I would highly recommend the Chart House for your wedding reception. The food, drinks, service, and views...
