Flaming Dogs Deli: Redwood City's Hidden Neighborhood Gem
Sometimes the best dining discoveries happen when hunger strikes at the perfect moment. Finding myself early for an AAA appointment with time to kill, I stumbled upon Flamin Dogs Deli- a decision that proved far more rewarding than settling for the nearby Chick-fil-A or In-N-Out chains.
This family-run sandwich shop embodies everything wonderful about neighborhood establishments. The barebones aesthetic might not win design awards, but it perfectly captures that authentic, no-nonsense diner atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. There's something refreshingly honest about a place that prioritizes substance over style, focusing entirely on what matters most: great food and genuine hospitality.
The staff exemplifies small-business charm - genuinely friendly and eager to offer recommendations without any corporate script or forced pleasantries. Their enthusiasm for their menu items is infectious and clearly comes from pride in what they serve.
I opted for the tuna sandwich, which delivered an experience reminiscent of the best homemade meals. There's a beautiful irony in how we treasure restaurants that achieve that elusive "home-cooked" quality, while at home we strive to replicate restaurant flavors. Flaming Dogs Deli masters this balance perfectly, creating food that feels both professionally crafted and lovingly prepared.
The sandwich was fresh, flavorful, and genuinely satisfying - exactly what you hope for from a neighborhood deli. The bread was perfectly fresh, the tuna well-seasoned without being overdone, and the portions generous without being wasteful.
What truly impressed me was their customer service flexibility. When I needed to step out briefly to complete my AAA business, they graciously held my sandwich without hesitation - a small gesture that speaks volumes about their commitment to customer care.
Flaming Dogs Deli has earned a permanent spot on my Redwood City rotation. The combination of quality food, reasonable prices, and genuine hospitality makes it worth the drive from the South Bay. I'm already planning my return visit to explore more of their...
Read moreI've been coming here for years now. I think like a lot of people, we work really close by. I think when I first started coming here, what got me hooked was the hot links.. and I've been a fan ever since.
My only WARNING for people is, please be prepared to wait for your order. Everything is literally made fresh to order. Perfection can NOT be rushed! If you are in a hurry, call your order ahead of time.
Kevin is "the Man". I had recently ordered a breakfast sandwich that wasn't on the menu, and he delivered. I had ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Something so simple was pure heaven. The bread was nicely toasted and buttered, with their amazing jalapeno spread. The eggs were so fluffy its like it melted in your mouth. I was excited to hear that he was even making one for himself.
They are always so nice, helpful, and patient. The prices may seem a little expensive, even for a mac salad. Trust me when I say...
