Robin Hood is a real gem hidden in plain sight on "the ave" about a block away from the Rehoboth boardwalk. True to its name, the Robin Hood has pictures of Erol Flynn as the original "prince of thieves" displayed on the walls. This place is a small diner open daily only until 3 pm that serves breakfast and lunch. You will find owner Nikki there talking to her guests and pouring coffee if needed. Her son Costa cooks and works in front too. They are Greek and its reflected in their menu with selections such as the Greek omelette (tomatoes and feta cheese), gyro sandwiches, and traditional Greek salads with kalamata olives, feta cheese, onions, tomatoes, dolmadas ( a.k.a. grapeleaves), tossed with a house made vinagrette. There is a breakfast menu with the usual eggs cooked to order, homefried potatoes with onions, omelettes, pancakes and French toast, and cream chipped beef. There is a few options for lunch such as grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and burgers with fries to name a couple. Don't forget to try their famous homemade vegetable soup!!! In addition to coffee, soft drinks, milk, and juices the Robin Hood offers a few cocktails on their drink menu. Start your weekend or vacation day off right with a bloody Mary or mimosa...for only $6!!! This is a place i personally like to visit at least once a week when I don't feel like making breakfast. The girls who serve here are friendly and efficient. I can see the Robin Hood hanging on strong as a Rehoboth staple for many...
Read moreWhen my folks retired to Rehoboth 20 years ago, they used to go to Robin Hood for breakfast. They stopped going due to the crowd at the beach and the service. This weekend, my mom recommended that we try it out, again. We were there by 8:45 and there was a wait. Not too bad. You have to wait outside on the benches. Once we got our table, it took a while for someone to greet us and get us drinks. The table behind us asked for hot tea and it took even longer for him to get his beverage. We ordered chipped beef and an omelet. The chipped beef was cold when it arrived, as was the toast. The way the cheese was melted in the omelet made me think it had been stuck in the microwave. While we were waiting for our meal, a huge spider crept up from the booth on the other side of us and crawled behind one of the paintings. My mom and I were wrapping up our meal. They put her food back in the microwave to heat it up. But, I was observing the owner going from table to table hugging the older patrons and hurrying along others. When she was within hearing distance I heard her tell the tea guy, "Are you done? It's time for you to go, we need the table." She did this a few times. I was put off by this. The service was ok. They were trying. It seemed they were short staffed and the owner did not talk well to her employees. The daughter was the hostess and the granddaughter was running the cash register. I found the granddaughter a bit...
Read moreWe decided to go to Ocean City, MD to get away but there were no decent restaurants open. Hence we drove to Rehoboth Beach to see what they had to offer. We had two surprises. The landmark sign for “Dolles Salt Water Taffy” was being removed from its historical roof top location due to a family feud. What a disappointment. It was such an icon where we could tell folks to meet by the “Dolles” sign. We were told that the sign would be exhibited in the Rehoboth Beach Museum. The question now is where do we meet friends. We found a gold mine: Robin Hood Restaurant. Simple foods are not that simple to execute. But this restaurant knows how to do it. I started with the soup of the day. It was fantastic and served piping hot, just the way I like it. I was surprised to see eggs benedict on the menu and had to try it. I never pass up eggs benedict. It was delicious and hot! The hollandaise sauce was as light as a feather and flavorful. The entree 2 eggs over easy with sausage and home fries was another hit. The sausage was so succulent and explosive in flavors. We were so impressed that we came back the next day before we headed home. We had 2 different servers and they were wonderful. The kitchen here knows how to please their guests. Nothing better than good food with good...
