Denny's — Restaurant in Reno

I know, somebody is going to say "how does a Denny's get 5 stars?!?!" Well, most everyone on yelp has been to a Denny's and would all agree that they are are not a five star establishment, but this place is a five star establishment among the several Denny's in the Reno/Sparks area. First of all, we usually come here on Saturday late mornings and I must say that this place is busy. Most of the time it is difficult to get a parking place, but one usually opens up relatively quick. We have not had to wait more than 5-10 minutes to be seated, every time we have been here. Why? the hostess running the front is on top of things. She is constantly checking with customers walking in the door, checking the restaurant to see if there are any open tables, answering the phone, handling take out orders, and taking payments from customers. Second, the quality of the food and coffee have been far better than the other locations. We usually order the blueberry pancake breakfast (eggs, bacon and hash browns) along with two waters and two coffees. The pancakes and regularly light, fluffy and full of blueberries!. The bacon is crisp, the eggs are fluffy and not over cooked, and the hash browns are browned, slightly crispy and never under/over cooked. Last of all, the servers here is a joy to watch. There are people constantly hustling to ensure that people have drinks, tables are cleaned, food is coming out, and to check on seated customers to find out if everything is ok. The Chef Zach always puts amazing performance. The food was cooked perfectly hot, fresh, and full of flavor. You can really tell that Zach takes pride in what he does. Everything from the eggs to the pancakes was just right, and the presentation was even better than expected for a diner.

Beyond the food, it’s clear that Zach is dedicated to making sure customers leave happy. You don’t always think about the chef when dining out, but Zach’s cooking made a huge difference. If you’re eating at this Denny’s, know that you’re in good hands. Highly recommend!

Then there’s the amazing Angie and Johnny! They are incredibly friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without us even having to ask. Our food came out quickly and was exactly as we ordered. Angie and Johnny always check in on us just the right amount—helpful but not overbearing. They really made the meal enjoyable with their positive attitude and great service. Definitely the best servers I’ve had at Denny’s!

Angie and Johnny really stood out because of their positive energy and professionalism. They took our order quickly and accurately, and when we had a couple of special requests, they handled them without any issues. Our food came out just as we ordered, and they even checked in to make sure everything was to our liking. It’s rare to find server’s who balances efficiency with genuine hospitality.

We've been here a couple of times before and our past visits had been very good hence why we came back today...but we just had the worst experience at this Denny's location.

We had 3 different families and we sat separately within each family group. For my experience, when we sat down we got our drink order taken within a few minutes. While they went to grab our drinks one of the other families was barely getting their table. (This is when the bad experience starts) the other family got sat and they ordered their drinks as well. They took about 20 minutes to just bring the drinks to our table. I had ordered a sweet cream cold brew and they handed to me a black cold brew with no cream in it, while she gave me the drink she said "here's your sweet cream cold brew". By the way our other family group that had gotten sat after us got their drinks way before us. The waitress also then took our order and we waited for the longest time to finally get our food. When we got it, the orders were wrong and they hadn't even made my daughter's order. We began to eat when a family member from the other group came to our table to let us know they were leaving because they had asked the waitress how much longer it was gonna take for their food to come out when she let them know that their food hadn't even begun to get prepared yet!
