While not my first time here, this was a first for my husband, best friend and her boyfriend. I was excited to share it with them! We celebrated our anniversary today at an Ace's game and then a late dinner.
First, the amazing! The chefs here definitely put a lot of time, care and creativity into crafting their dishes - from small plates, sharables, main entrees, sides and desserts. This care is also given at the bar with their crafted alcohol and non-alcoholic cocktails/mocktails.
We started with drinks - the Old Fashion was a strong pour with its garnished flavors, a Lemon Drop and one of my favorite mocktails - a Mango Mojito, with a strong mix of fresh mango mash and other flavors I couldn't place but blended nicely into a pleasant drink. So, if you have drinkers and non-drinkers, you can still have a better than average - soda, tea and water experience.
We started with the Marinated Castelvetrano Olives. I'm not an olive fan but they were mixed with whole garlic that was delectable. Both were made with a morita chili and urfa pepper but there was no heat. The olive lovers were very happy with both the garlic and Olives.
Then we had tender scallops mixed with delicious shreds of Wagyu on a bed of fava beans, watercress and strawberries. I would never think to add strawberries but the combination was exquisite. And speaking of exquisite combinations, while I did not try these, my friend could not stop raving over how he could taste every flavor in the Brisket Barbacoa Tacos.
My bestie ordered the Parmesan Ricotta Gnocchi and it was clear upon arrival that you would not get gnocchi like this anywhere else. They were perfectly cooked, apparently homemade and dancing in the flavors of carrot top pesto (who knew!), English pea puree etc. I was given one incredible bite and I can't wait to order it for myself.
My husband and I got the Seared Flat Iron Steak and Pan Roasted Verlasso Salmon respectively. I have had both before but they were plated differently this time with a bit more pinache. The steak was tender and a fine cut. My salmon had a crisp coating of its own flavor with delicately cooked and a flaking middle, how salmon is supposed to be.
Add a side of their garlic mashed potatoes and then completed with an unexpected mousse? Tart? It was deliciously dense and rich, plated with a Raspberry puree, homemade whip and shaved chocolate. It was the perfect end to a perfect meal.
Add in a lovely, romantic atmosphere, with dim lights and comfortable seating and it was an almost perfect experience.
Our server was attentive, responsive and kept the table clean. He was the one who surprised us with the dessert.
The meh - the host was most likely new as we had a 9pm reservation but tried to say the restaurant closed at 9 not 10pm. We waited a bit longer than usual for food but nothing unreasonable as they spaced them out appropriately. However, that meant that we were still working on the dessert at 10pm when the overhead lights went on, the universal signal for "get out". We were done and ready to leave by 10 after so it would have been nice if they'd waited just 10 minutes past closing before the "reminder".
If you are looking for a nice romantic or even fine dinner with friends, The Shore should be high on...
Read moreHusband and I ate here with a fairly large group (made reservations) for a graduation dinner. We all had a large table which accommodated all but two of our party, unexpected as the restaurant had been notified of our group size when the reservation was made. We had to figure out where to fit the unseated couple and where to get the extra chairs, responsibilities you would expect the restaurant, not the guests themselves, to handle. Our party also had the only patio seating directly in the blazing afternoon sun, although theer was more than sufficient space for the entirety of our table to be shaded by a generous overhanging roof... and in fact all the other outdoor tables in our section were positioned accordingly.
The waitress was great for our large group, very attentive and spirited, however her reaction to our requested division of the party check into individual couple bills was bizarre: she first said that such a separation of the check couldn't be done AT ALL, then told us it could only be split into two equal checks, and then relented further saying she could at best split the bill into four equal sums... which would all be tabulated as one check for the whole group. That's 27 people all on one check. Needless to say, this strange insistence forced some very hasty, embarrassing, and inconvenient juggling of finances amongst our group. Some of the older people didn't even have or know about Venmo or Zelle, so this was a big stresser, completely derailing the party atmosphere and becoming the conversational focus for almost half an hour. Everyone was quite frustrated; needless to say, none of us had ever been forced to deal with a bill in this strange fashion.
After much calculation, the head of the dinner party, my sister was able to settle it with one large payment and tip (took an extra 30 mins mind you). Knowing that it's customary to divide up checks for large groups, we still don't understand what exactly the problem was, and we were never told.
Also I didn't realize that there was going to be a set menu compared to the normal menu? That's fine I suppose but I felt the options were limited and quite expensive for the portions. Don't get me wrong the food was delish, absolutely fantastic and brought out quickly; children first which was ideal.
All in all perhaps for a smaller gathering this place could be ideal, maybe even romantic (make sure to get a shady table). I felt it was a bit overrated but we did end up enjoying ourselves and the beautiful...
Read moreUpon arrival to the restaurant I asked the hostess if we could sit on the patio. (It’s 52 degrees and sunny). The blonde hostess stated the patio is not open due to the weather. So we ordered to take to the other patio on the other side of the hotel.
We ordered two kids burgers for our children. It’s stated on the menu (lettuce tomato onion by request) we asked to have produce on the children’s burgers.
The female hostess told me to add tomato, lettuce or onion to our children’s food it would be an extra charge.
All the while a a male hostess is sitting a table outside on the patio the female hostess said was closed.
The Male hostess (younger male) approached the front stand. I asked the gentleman if the patio is open. The gentleman stated it’s up to the bartenders if it open. I asked if we were able to sit there since other people are outside eating. The gentleman stated yes we can seat you.
Instantly the same blonde female host stated there is no service if you go outside. Exactly at the same time a server bring drinks and silverware to the table full of people that were just sat. I asked the female hostess then why is a table being served by a female waitress/bartender. The female hostess rolled her eyes and turned her back to us.
Before Our to go food arrives I requested again to sit outside and eat on the patio with service. The female hostess said we can take our to go and sit.
We took our to go order outside and was completely ignored by any staff. While we ate our meal 4 more tables were sat and serviced conducted.
The lack of professionalism and service by the hostess was second to none. Her incompetency of what was happening at the restaurant and her peer hosted was doing was astounding. She was extremely non welcoming.
I do believe this female hostess treated us this way solely due to us coming down from our hotel room in sweats and having two small kids. I believe her classless hospitality was directed to us out of her classist personally.
Sadly she judged me based on my sweats and hoodie outfit with two children. I feel extremely disgusted with her actions and the way she made my children and wife feel.
her disrespect made two children not feel welcomed and made my 6 year old son ask why are we not...
