I am currently staying at the Plaza on the River Hotel. I like the room, but they don't have a shuttle to or from the airport; the taxi costs another $20 each way. Also, they advertise high-speed internet: two days consecutively, I've had connection/disconnection problems and slow-loading problems. I told the man at the counter about my internet problems and without discussing it further, he told me it must be my device because no one else had complained. My device has had no issues anywhere else I've been. I went back to my room and attempted to connect to the internet again. It took twenty minutes to connect successfully and the first thing I did was write this review while I had a chance. I haven't had much of a chance yet to explore the other amenities, so no comment on anything else at this time.
I am not pleased with the immediate response of the connection being the fault of my device without even discussing the issue. And when I clicked "POST" on this review, I received a message telling me there was no internet connection; go figure. I will stay with it until it posts.
Update: One day later and it is still slow, slow, slow.
Day six: I complained to the front desk again to a different person about the slow and unreliable internet connection. This person took the time to pull a book out and record my complaint. This small action shows acknowledgment of my complaint and was a far better response than a canned answer without any hint of concern.
The internet seemed to improve by not disconnecting as often.
Regarding the amenities: The hot tub was nice; the pool area had a nice feeling to it, but the pool was too cold which made me not want to use it. The exercise room was a joke; the refreshment room only offered coffee and the continental breakfast consisted of packaged junk food.. The hotel is not on the Truckee River: it's about a block away, but you can see the river if you look for it.
Over all, I enjoyed the stay mainly because the room was pleasant.
The hotel has an older, nostalgic feeling to it and it's clean.
I would stay here again if I thought that the management had pulled it together in regards to quality, consistent customer service practices along with improving...
Read more1st time staying at this hotel. Booked the Room for early April, paid about $180 for 1 night stay arriving on a Friday. As soon as you step into the hotel lobby, you're stepping back in time! Honestly, that was one of the main reasons why I booked here =p . Downstairs lobby has a "buisness center" available for guests that included a desk, computer w/internet, printer/copy machine, etc. The room was pretty spacious. Decor reminded me of the 80's,loving it! I booked with my husband and 2 teenage boys, At the time of booking only a Queen size bed and pull out couch was available. The room included a TV,small round table and chairs, mini fridge, couch and a safe to store your valuables, and wifi.First hotel in a long time that offered a microwave in the room. That was a plus, to heat up left over pizza from the Circus Circus yum! We decided not to get the parking garage door opener to come and go at anytime for an additional $75 deposit since It was only a 12 minute walk to the main casinos downtown. The pool was open but didn't get a chance to visit since we were only there for one night. The Queen size bed was really comfortable ,the room was clean, large windows, our view was of the outdoor roof patio, plenty of towels, mini fridge. I did remove one star for the pullout couch not very comfy, and they do not offer a late check out. It was one of the cheaper rooms I found for a busy weekend in Reno, I'd stay...
Read moreWe went to Reno with our 2 teenage boys. Plaza Resort is the absolute perfect location. We used the car once when we went out looking for tubes for the Truckee River- which is right across the street! There are so many restaurants within walking distance - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Casinos are a very short walk away. The hotel itself is a little outdated but clean and comfortable. The boys slept on the pulllout sofa. We requested a new mattress because the one that was there was super thin and worn. We got one right away but quickly realized the actual frame of the pullout was so old the mattress only made a tiny difference. The frame was bent and falling apart so the frame was angled down at both the feet and the head. We were also kind of annoyed that we had to pay for extra k-cups beyond the ones they give you the first night. They were only .35 but it was the principal- If housekeeping was going into the room every day they would just replace it. The pool was clean and warm. The kids loved the fact that there was a tv large enough and loud enough to see and hear while lounging in the pool. There was one male front desk employee was very courteous and then there was a woman who was rude and not friendly at all. Maybe she was having a bad weekend. Anyway, overall our stay was good and we would go back. We would just bring an air mattress for the kids...
