I got food poisoning from my dinner, vomited it back up entirely a few hours after I ate. Which for a meal that ran me over $30 total in the end, especially something basic like a burrito, is a bit obnoxious to deal with.
I was lucky nothing continued but it definitely ended my night early. I don't push myself when things like this happen. I was already on antibiotics for acne and a sinus infection when it hit me so fortunately for me I think that may have shielded me some from it.
Please note that I hadn't had more than one alcoholic beverage in the date I was here so it's definitely not like there's another excuse for it.
I had the Cali burrito, it wasn't the same as the California burritos back home. The guac wasn't particularly fresh (normally I have it with sliced avocado) and well, I suppose it came with beans and rice but... Yeah... That's a bit expensive for a California burrito.
This is also the second time I've had food poisoning at one of the GSR restaurants. It's left me a little paranoid I'm afraid and there's next to no good food options in walking distance unless I go more than 30 minutes. Johnny Rockets and Round table have been pretty safe as was the little walk up pizzas if you get them fresh.
But this gave me flashbacks to the time I ostensibly got salmonella and ended up hospitalized after eating the AYCE sushi many years ago. (Pre COVID). It was ungodly bad and left me recovering for a week. I just, can't trust most of the...
Read moreMexican food at an elevated level, done quite well, and I gave them 5☆s because I believe they are working very hard on bringing Mexican flavors, it just needs a little tweeking.
Our server was amazing! Very attentive, and did a great job waiting on us.
Chips, Salsa, Habanero Salsa & Guacamole were delicious, couldn't stop eating it.
You can tell a lot about a restaurant by the most basic item on their menu, which has to be the rice and beans. The rice a bit on the dryer side, yet flavors were just right, the refried beans were very tasty, and I was impressed.
Fajitas were well executed, the chicken was incredibly juicy for being breast, seasoning was on point, loved all the Sautéed veg on the skillet. The Birria Empenadas, a good idea, was not my favorite, the masa was a bit underdone, and the meat was too salty.
The same Birria meat was used in the quesadilla, and was too salty again, so we wasted that, sad...
I like that the Carne Asada was cooked very lightly and not over done, but one entire piece was very raw, and not a touch of heat to that part of the meat. Luckily one of my family members liked raw meat.
However I just couldn't come around to ordering a $7 taco, when I know how much they are on the "outside".
Overall, I would definitely give this place another try now that I know what I'm...
Read moreThis place was pretty packed when as walked in. People that worked there was super nice and helpful. The lady at the bar was busy but she is very good at multi-tasking that she was able to take our to go order.
When I picked up the food it was heavy and we didn't even order that much food.
Carne asada burrito - It came with rice and beans with guacamole. First bite and my mind was blown. I've had plenty of burritos but this was different. The meat was juicy and flavorful. Perfect ratio of meat and rice.
Quesa birria tacos - It came with rice and beans as well. First bite without the consommé and to be honest you didn't need it. It was crunchy, cheesy, and so meaty.
Bacon wrapped shrimp - I recommend squeezing a lime on top of each shrimp. The bacon is crunchy and salty. The lime helps balance the saltiness. The shrimp is a pretty good size.
Chocolate cheesecake - Heavenly, can't go without having dessert. I loved the cookie crust. For a to go order it was beautifully decorated. I loved the chocolate skull on top.
I can't wait to go back. I've always avoided this place only because we figured it's just like the food we have at home. We stand corrected. Don't make the same mistake we did. Now we regret not coming...
