I'm kinda surprised at how this place has a 4.5 rating. I was pretty disappointed with what I received from this deli.
Taste: I ordered the "Real Italian Hero". A sandwich of prosciutto, mozzarella, basil leaves, and roasted red peppers. The taste was good. There's a dash of olive oil on the bread that really adds to the flavor. Unfortunately the few sprinkles of basil and peppers were basically lost in the sandwich and therefore non existent. This is the only reason place got 2 stars from me.
Price: My goodness. $12 for a sandwich. I'm more than willing to pay a high price for some real good food, but at this price the sandwich missed the mark in size and substance. The sandwich was thinner than a can of soda, shorter than 2 cans stacked on top of each other. It's incomprehensible how this size would go for $12. I understand prosciutto and mozzarella is not cheap, but it's also not this expensive either.
Service: I arrived at 1:20 PM. There were roughly 5-6 people already eating and 1 person at the cashier paying for his food. I was next and made my order. Almost 10 minutes later I received my sandwich. Not sure what took so long, my order only had a few slices of cheese and meat.
Overall: This place seems to have the right ingredients to make a really good meal, but their gauge on size, price, and substance needs to be calibrated. Quite honestly, they need to pick up the speed on service as well. I've been to a handful of Italian delis in my life and maybe my issue was bringing that expectation to this location. You're better off going to Jimmy Johns...
Read moreAs someone who is the granddaughter of a former NY Deli Owner, this place knocks it out of the park. Who knew, a place in Richmond?!
I was doing about a 10 hour road trip North when I asked my sister to find me a sandwich spot in Richmond I could stop at for lunch. She quickly found Coppola’s.
Upon exiting 95, Coppola’s is less than a 10 minute drive and is well worth it. It sits in a quaint, historic neighborhood called Carytown, filled with beautiful homes, shops, restaurants, and cafes. I wish I could have stayed for longer!
This was on a Sunday afternoon and I stopped in at about 1:30ish. I waited on a short line which was perfect to peruse the vast menu. I landed on the Industrial, which seemed pretty classic. It took about 7-10 minutes to come out, which I spent looking at the shop items, and memorabilia paying homage to its Brooklyn/Italian roots.
I did not choose wrong. This sandwich put a smile on my face for the remaining 6 hours of my drive. I loved the addition of hot and sweet peppers which is not something you see everyday on an Italian sub. The onions soaked up the oil and vinegar which made them impeccably tasty. And the bit of seasoning on top was what set this apart. Such a minute but thoughtful touch on a mound of deliciousness.
If you are in the area, don’t skip out on this spot. I can’t wait to go back...
Read moreThis place has some of the best deli sandwiches in the city - but is run by incompetents. I just waited 20 minutes for two sandwiches and there was only one other customer for the entire time. There were No less than 3 EMPLOYEES at the time! According to my ticket, I ordered at 17:43; I walked out at 18:05. The only time I got an explanation was when I told the guy bringing me my sandwich that it took a very long time. He said that they accidentally put cheese on the sandwich when I didn't want any. Still, 20 minutes!!?!? With no explanation! Also, only two out of three employees were wearing gloves while preparing my food. That wouldn't be bad if he wasn't the one preparing my food. Don't worry though, I'm sure he washes his hands before returning to work after using the facilities in accordance...
