First let me say, the first time I went to Greek on Cary was about a year ago and it was a magical place with the best falafel I've ever had, friendly people and really fresh ingredients in everything. It became one of my favorites and my boyfriend used to go about once a month but hadn't been since probably around February.
This review is about my most recent experience, just this evening. My boyfriend and I had been talking about going back for weeks and were looking forward to it so much. Immediately there seemed to be a problem when the regular chefs were not there, the menu was completely different and the usual portions of warm pita were not provided to us. I barely looked at the menu because I always order the same thing: the falafel platter. However when I ordered, the waitress said that they didn't do this anymore, even though there was an exact picture of what i usually ordered in their new menu. I eventually just ordered just a side of falafel with a side salad, essentially what the platter is. My boyfriend ordered the same thing and we ordered spanakopita as an appetizer. Everything came out fairly quickly, however we only got one portion of falafel, even though we clearly asked for two. First off it looked so bad just right from the beginning that we didn't even try to call over our horrible waitress to correct the order. The falafel was a completely different recipe than what I had gotten a few months earlier. The salad was a salad out of a bag with italian dressing. The olives were soggy and not fresh. All of the sauces tasted like plastic. The spanakopita was definitely a frozen thing they just popped in the microwave. I absolutely think there was some sort of ownership or management turnover. It makes me so sad because it was honestly the best Greek food I'd ever had. I hope that whatever is going on is temporary and we'll get our old Greek on...
Read moreGreek on Cary! A wonderful lunch and dinner spot! I’ll begin with their flexible seating arrangements with a small bar(seats 8), private patio seating and a spacious indoor dining area with lots of natural light and fun decor! They only have a few, servers/bartenders and I had one make a drink off the menu and I had her freestyle a drink with two ingredients I picked out! She’ll get you straight! Greek fries, feta, lamb, fresh cut homemade fries with taziki sauce on the side. Lamb is well seasoned, not too rare and cooked right to the perfect chew! Fries are definitely made in house. They are very good, not too salty and have a very soft savory flavor. The feta is very good and just melts in your mouth and pairs very nicely with the lamb! doing and I trust that she will deliver you not only excellent service and great conversation but she will make sure you got the best tasting medicine if you like to make your own drink! Alex is the owner and I had the pleasure of seeing him take initiative to help the servers during the busy lunch rush which was big in my book from a former bartender/server! My first drink was the Pineapple basil bourbon smash drink is refreshing and balanced with a nice dried pineapple garnish, my meal was just as good! Greek lamb Pita wrap: we have tomatoes, lettuce, lamb, red onion and taziki sauce wrapped up into a savory filling cocoon. Of you aren’t full after those lamb fries, you’ll definitely be full after these pitas! They are seasoned to the T! I’m a big fan of lamb and there’s very few places locally that serve it and I must say whether it be on fries topped with feta or in a pita paired with lettuce and tomato, Greek on Cary has some of the best lamb in the city! If you haven’t tried Greek on Cary yet, I highly recommend you add it...
Read moreAs a preface, I have worked in restaurants as a server, busser or hostess for ten years, so I know that things don't always go perfectly, but this was just plain unacceptable.
I have no idea how this is so high up on review sites. My boyfriend and I came here because of the great reviews. Everything was fine until three different groups of people came in and left before we even got our food. I would normally understand this because depending on what you order it can take longer, but a couple walked in 20 minutes after we ordered and ordered the EXACT same thing as us and got it before we got our food. We both got the handmade lamb gyros. It took 45 minutes to get our food and given the atmosphere that is ABSURD.
I asked after 40 minutes if it was going to be much longer and our server says two minutes. I asked if a manager was working and she told me yes and proceeded to NOT tell the manager to come over. So after we finished our food, which didn't even taste good at this point, I asked AGAIN to speak with the manager.
The manager comes over and doesn't say anything... He just stared at us until I spoke. I told him I was upset and why and explained that the food was good but that it took an absurd amount of time and I had to ask twice to speak with a manager. He continued to look at me blankly and then asked if everything was good... OBVIOUSLY NOT. After he didn't offer any type of compensation or reassurance I asked if they were going to compensate us somehow and he just walked away.
I saw him speaking to our server assuming they were going to bring us over something for free or give us a gift card or comp something. Nope. I went up to ring out and we had to pay full price. No apology from our server or anything.
Worst experience I have ever had in...
