I was so excited to visit this cute coffee shop because of their attractive Instagram coffee content. The drinks were beautiful, we had a latte and I had an iced latte with the bear coffee cube. The service I got from the cashier was horrid. I came in very enthusiastic , and greeted her happily. I told her it’s my first time visiting, do you have recommendations for bites or coffees. She looked so bothered by my question, not a smile to be seen. I felt a certain negative energy, mind you I’m Spanish and so was the cashier… but I just felt so uncomfortable with her treatment. I didn’t ask many more questions because of her demeanor. When I continued to observe her from afar I saw a different treatment for the “white “ customers . It’s a shame I wasn’t made to feel welcome and that the person they have at the register has such little enthusiasm to greet certain customers . Good coffee, terrible service Edit: Upon reading through the reviews I realize I’m not the only Hispanic that felt uncomfortable with the treatment I received at this “Colombian “ coffee shop . I have worked as a barista/host/cashier for 15 years. Never have I made a customer feel like I’m bothered by their inquiries or presence. This establishment needs to seriously look at their hospitality skills. I’ll keep visiting Pierre and Michelle bakery a block from them, they have such nice smiling staff there with way better coffee and dessert, another great choice is Hous cafe and Sook. … stay away from Rey de Sol unless your white/european then you receive great...

After visiting Ridgewood this morning for a haircut, i perused the streets for a cozy place to sit, have a cup of coffee and read a book. Frustrated with the early risers, i almost ditching the scene but came across a small Columbian coffee house, bright with latin inspired music, colorful decor and a fabulous staff behind the counter. There were a few seats opened at tables but i lucked out and got the plush chair. Perfect for one. There are MANY coffee houses in Ridgewood, but this was for the Locals. Families with kids, were comfortably enjoying Sunday coffee and breakfast in this tiny place. The coffee menu is as expected, However, the coffee is strongly exceptional. Having had a horrible week, i treated myself to a Macchiato and a spinach empanada. The coffee was perfect. Not overpowered with chocolate like those of other places. Espresso was the hero. The empanada ozzed of a spinach concoction that was delectable. I was satisfied.
Hours later, i was with my grown up boy. He was Jonesing for a great cup of coffee and suggested...Rey Sol Coffee in Ridgewood...how serendipitous is that??
So out we went again. He had an iced latte with the cutiest dam teddy-bear-coffee flavored-ice-cube i have ever seen, and a chicken sandwich he devoured while making yum-yum noises the entire time. I had a capaccino and a repeat spinach empanada...

Read moreRey Sol Coffee is a hidden gem in a state, New Jersey, known more for its pizzerias and diners as oppose to coffee shops. Nonetheless, Rey Sol Coffee, an oasis in a desert of chain coffee franchises, reinvigorates the soul and gives you an experience you didn’t know you needed - the business captivates, not only for standing out among very few independent coffee businesses, but because they really are that special.
Telling Rey Sol’s story, attempting to describe the experience, doesn’t do it justice - you have to go and live it yourself.
Their Instagram page, as solid as they come, understates the experience - the photos capture the moment, the videos capture the tone, the shop hits you , “In the feelz,” as the young folk would say.
Get a cup of cappuccino. Order the “Wafflebono.” Chase that with a “Build Your Own Breakfast Panini,” then tell me what you think. The feelz were realz!
For many, the drive to Ridgewood, NJ might be too far, but It’s certainly worth the drive. And you’ll be happy to know, a new Morristown location is opening soon.
