Visited with a dinner companion about a month ago. Sat at the bar, then moved to a table. The wine list is shown on a tablet, which lacks any of the charm inherent in enjoying wine, but as a practical matter, sure, I suppose I get it. Though I'd prefer printed or perhaps a bound piece of collateral. The decor is warm, den-like and nicely lit to achieve a cozy, lived-in tone. But again, this only shines an even brighter light on the weird choice to put a wine list on a touch screen.
The list wasn't incredible in quantity, but diverse enough to offer something for everyone. The bar staff was versed and that is always important and appreciated.
The atmosphere was lively and in general, made for an inviting experience.
When we moved to dine, we were seated in a cozy pseudo-booth, that resided among a row of them and I have always personally liked this design, as it helps achieve a desired motif - in this case dark, cozy, saloon-rustic.
Our server, whose name escapes me, was lovely. I recall she was a dancer I think. She was incredibly polite and better than that, seemed to genuinely enjoy talking to and pleasing her customers. Those are not coachable characteristics. I wasn't especially hungry, but did order both the Stout Braised Pei Mussels and Five Onion Soup. The soup was a lovely, not-too-salty spin on French Onion Soup and was presented well. The mussels had a only slightly zesty kick and an otherwise brothy ragù-like consistency. Both its appearance and taste were homemade, which I found impressive out of a place that isn't likely preparing sauces absolutely from scratch, and to-order. I was impressed with the food.
I'd definitely dine here again, but I would prefer they match their wine list collateral with the ardent attention they've clearly shown the walls, ceilings and food presentation. It's just odd to be frank, that a place so invested in its tastefully agrestic appearance would put its wines on a computer. Apart from that whiny opinion, this is a...
Read moreI wasn’t going to post this because I genuinely want to support bars and restaurants as they have been through a lot over the past 3 years. However, the experience I and my friends had here in late December was truly disappointing so I must share this for everyone’s knowledge.
We reached around 9:00 pm with a solid hour and a half or so remaining per their hours of operation that night. There were two waiters (one at the bar) and it didn’t seem like either of them were interested in providing any service to us.
Plates of previous patrons were not cleared and we had to call the waiters multiple times to get any attention to take our order for drinks and food. It wasn’t even that busy - the place was practically 2/3rds empty. When the food came out it was so-so and funnily enough there were no plates or no silverware brought along with it.
If the business is interested in catering to only a certain type of clientele, please put up a sign that says so. We won’t come and honestly, we won’t even be offended either.
Supporting local businesses is a two-way street. The local business also should want to serve the local patrons, regardless of who they are. We are hard-working, paying customers who are happy to tip you for your service as we know how important it is to support local businesses. Please don’t take us for...
Read moreI hate writing bad reviews but this was such a frustratingly bad experience that I felt I had to. We got to The Office at 8:30 on a Saturday night during the Final Four, so we expected to have to wait. We put our names down for a table for 4 and got drinks at the bar. The first table that became available was given to another group even though we had been told there was no one above us on the waiting list. And then multiple tables became available but there was no urgency by anyone to clean the tables and we had to wait at least 10 minutes after the table left before we were seated. By this point, it was pretty empty so we assumed service would be quick. This was not the case at all, as our waiter/bartender routinely left us for long periods of time until we would get his attention. After taking our orders, he never checked in on us for drinks or dessert until we called him over. Finally, it took forever to get the check and then took forever for someone to run our card. At this point, we were one of the only groups left, so it was inexplicable that we had to wait so long. The food was fine and the large drink selection is nice, but I can't see myself coming back any time in the...
