After the great All-you-can-eat-seafood apocalypse, we can officially crown Sushi X as the last man standing. A few short years ago there were still many pretenders to the throne. The post-covid landscape is now littered with their corpses for in the end THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. You see, it takes huge volumes to sustain this business model. Sushi X's location looks small from the outside, but the lot runs deep into the back, and the amount of seating is actually rather impressive. The price at 32 dollars per adult on week nights is not exactly cheap, but it's definitely the best deal you can get for this kind of establishment. AS for what you're getting for the money, let me just say that it's remarkably consistent. I've never received anything terrible from their kitchen, the quality ranging from good to at least passable. Considering the huge menu, which I have sampled from liberally, this is a remarkable accomplishment. The quality of the fish, for instance, is not bad. Some of the rolls can sort of fall apart when you try to dip them, but the rice is good. Rice is important in sushi. It's all about the mouth feel. The wasabi is high quality too. Miso soup: standard. Yakitori: a little tough, but flavorful. Seaweed salad: standard. Gyoza: not bad. Edamame: the great thing about edamame, so simple it cant' be messed up. The red bean and/or green tea ice cream at the end is a constant temptation, though I've given up most sweets to protect my teeth. I have not tried absolutely everything, the Udon for example, but I feel confident that management knows what they're doing. If they can't achieve at least a certain level of quality, they'll eliminate it from the offering, which is precisely the right thing to do. Service: not going to lie, it's no frills. They talk to you once to ask if you want a drink and give you the ordering menu. They come back to give you the drinks and pickup the menu. Then they bring you your food without hardly making eye contact again. The service is not exactly solicitous, but it is minimal and efficient. Considering the almost military precision of this operation, it's factory like scale, the atmosphere still manages a pretty calm,...
Read moreHORRIBLE SERVICE. We came in as a group of 4 people who were really really hungry. We waited over 45 minutes just to get our food! About 30 minutes in, people who sat down after us got their food before us. I usually don't complain, but we were all hungry and found this unacceptable. We asked for the manager, but were told the manager is not available.
Instead, we were forced to solve our issue with the 16 year old kid who was serving us. He said the best he can do is charge us for the kids meal which is 14.99 per person instead of 23.99 per person. I decided to be reasonable and said OK. Then, they serve us the bill and only charge 1 person 14.99 and the res of us the full 23.99 price. I told them this is unacceptable and asked them to fix the bill. They refused.
I told the lady I will only pay what I was told and not this amount they are giving me. She threatened to call the police so I told her to go ahead because I feel that I was being scammed and lied to. The police came and told me they won't make me pay, but they also can't tell them what to charge. I decided to be the bigger man and pay for the bill. The nice police offer told me this is a regular thing with Sushi X, meaning they've been there a few times before the same sort of issue.
I mean, what kind of place is willing to embarrass themselves and call the police on their own customers for a $28 difference? REALLY? think about it. I'm embarrassed for them. The entire restaurant saw what had happened. I hope the $28 was worth a terrible review from us. Obviously they don't care about service, because they have several one star reviews on Yelp.
Sushi X, your service is TERRIBLE. When dealing with people for a living, you need a little more compassion and...
Read moreFood-wise I will always give Sushi X 5 stars. Their sushi is always fresh and the DINE IN customer service is always great. But I cannot give 5 stars for the customer service when not dining in. I always enjoy their All You Can Eat option but I am never ordering takeout from here ever again.
I ordered takeout via GrubHub and was informed via notifications that the order would be ready in 30 minutes. I waited 40 minutes as I know some pick up times (especially on the weekends) can be poorly estimated. I waited over AN HOUR AND A HALF, in addition to the 40 minutes, for my pickup order to be ready. They were so backed up with pickup orders that myself and 10 other customers waited an extensive amount of time for our pickups because Sushi X did not handle their order queue properly. I was constantly told 10-15 minutes without even being asked for my name or my order.
I understand it was during dinner rush on a Friday night and there could be a number of internal issues I am not aware of, however, having worked in the restaurant business for years, there is a much better and more efficient way to handle dine in and take out orders during the dinner rush. For example, the GrubHub app allows restaurants to set the wait time...this could have been the first solution to spread out the order queue.
I will continue to give them my business but only for dine in/All You Can Eat; NEVER AGAIN will I order takeout from there until they figure out how to manage their order queue more...
