I’ve been vegan for six years and have been to Monty’s several times over the time where it first opened and now. This Riverside location has always been the downgraded version of the first Monty’s in Koreatown LA, and I feel like it has gotten worse regarding customer service. Yesterday night my husband and a friend drove out to the Foodlab, we arrived at 10pm, an entire hour before close. When we first got into line they stared at us from behind the make station - they looked aggravated. We walked to the register and waited to ge greeted by the huddled crowd of employees by the grill. One girl finally walked up after a few minutes and took our order. I asked her about sweatshirts, because I love promoting food businesses; especially vegan ones. She said I don’t know and stared at me blankly saying she would check after with an obviously frustrated face. I was confused why she couldn’t ask real fast or check the bin full of them right next to her but finished my order and then she checked 2secs after she told me “after.” All she did was ask another employee who was standing close to her anyway. They took my husband’s order and it came out incorrect. They forgot his lettuce, so he brought it back, waited to be greeted again by the 5 huddled employees staring at him behind the make area. One guy came up and said sarcastically, “Is that all you’re going to get?” And then he got another girl to give him a piece of lettuce which she threw on the counter and walked away. Our burgers were slightly burned as if they weren’t paying attention to what they were cooking. All their gestures were a mixture of frustration and inconsideration. We sat and ate, watched other customers come up and be treated the same way, watched them close down machines to reopen them again when a customer came by, like the shake machine which they became aggravated about too. The manager there actually started counting the till and taking out all the money 20 minutes before close. I work at fast food jobs, he would have been smoked by the owner. It was like watching a circus of adult-children, which really broke my fix for Monty’s. I met the owners, supported and promoted them since the beginning, but after this experience and few other times I chose to overlook - I think it is a...
Read moreBased off of other people's reviews it seemed like a great place with great food but that FAR from the case with me. We ordered it online on our way there and drove 45 minutes to an hour just to get the food. When we got it they pulled our drinks out of the freezer or refrigerator which was nice to see and then they have it to us. After we got our food we started snacking on the fries and they were cold like not even slightly warm. That was a disappointment but oh well then we tried drinking the shakes and realized both of our straws were broken so we couldn't even drink our drinks while we drove. We also had no sauce whatsoever and I asked to get all of them. So we were eating cold soggy fries with no sauce so I ended up calling them with the number listed on Google and there was NOBODY to talk to. It was completely automated and only gave you location addresses and hours. So now I have to drive back there because so far I haven't even been able to eat any of the food. Now it isn't all negative which is why I gave them 2 stars because once I got there the customer service was good I waited in line for about 15 minutes but he had no problem giving me fries and sauce but he only gave me one order of fries when I got two which sucked. But at this point our burgers were cold and disgusting we only each had a single bite and had to throw it away and our drinks were both bad, they got separated and became liquid so those got thrown out. We ended up spending almost 2 hours and around 60 dollars just to eat fries at the food lab. It sucks because this was supposed to be a date night for us because we have two kids and haven't had a break in over a year and this ruined it for us. Now that I've typed this out there really wasn't any pros so it's going to be a 1 star instead. My family was really excited about us going because they are all either vegan, vegetarian or lactose intolerant and wanted to know how this place was and I could never recommend going...
Read moreTried this place after hearing about it from friends in Riverside.
The menu is really small, especially when it comes to food. Only a single or double burger, fries or tater tots. Monty's does have some variety in their drink selection, and their shakes look really good.
Their fries are okay. Their tots are rather salty. I tried the onion dip, which was tasteless.
Their burgers aren't very good. Maybe too much salt, or their patties just aren't tasty. My date couldn't finish hers as it was making her feel nauseous. I usually finish what she can't, but I only finished my own burger out of obligation and to prevent me from feeling hungry later. We ultimately just threw the rest of hers away. I walked away feeling like I wasted my money. I'm glad I purchased only two single burgers, although way over priced at $11 a pop.
Their shakes looked really good. If I had been in the mood for fries and a shake instead of actually eating a meal maybe my experience would have been better. Having already spent about $35 on two burgers, a fry, a tot and a drink, I really wasn't interested in spending $7 more for a shake.
Afterwards, trying to battle the overly salty taste and Monty burps I was experiencing, I really felt I should have driven to Plant Power in Redlands, gotten a really tasty vegan meal and put the money I saved into my gas tank to cover the travel.
I really love going to all vegan restaurants and I love finding new vegan spots in the area to try, but Monty's, you've gotta...
