We have been a long time patron of Jim's since we moved into the area 11 years ago, not long after they opened. We have frequented at least weekly on Saturday and Sunday mornings and often during the week. Our standard tip was $10 on a $35 bill and often $20 on slow days. We've gotten to know the regular waitresses and often leave $100 tip for special occasions and holidays even though COVID, we ordered out as much as we could. We definitely were part of the Jim's Riverton culture.
Were, is the operative word here. Over the past several months as they started opening up more, we have seen a big shift in the atmosphere and general feeling of the staff.
On one occasion we asked to sit in a specific person's section. We were advised that she was on break. I replied that was ok we would wait. We were promptly seated in another person's section. I fully intended to complain on the way out to the owner. Of course, they were slammed at this point, and I decided that there was a better place and time.
The owner was sorting out the issues at the front desk as all 3 of the new hostesses couldn't seem to coordinate the register AND seat patrons at the same time. Ok, everyone has to start somewhere, but my biggest issue at that moment was the appearance of the owner. Short pants and sandals in a place of business. Maybe I'm old school, but to me this truly isn't professional.
Apparently, while we were grumbling during the above mentioned meal about how the quality of service had recently taken a nose dive, the waitress overheard. As the next time we entered the premises, she came up to our table and announced that she was surprised to see us, as she thought we were never coming back. That was just so rude on so many levels.
Fast forward to today. We walk in and again pandemonium at the front desk. The 2 new hostesses were so concerned about clearing and seating a party of 7, that people were stacking up out the front doors. There were no less than 10 empty tables and no one was seated for the 10 to 15 minutes we were waiting (2nd in line). We left and went somewhere else.
We were recently informed that there had been a management change and I know as mentioned above that there is a learning curve to any job, but the overall quality of the service and atmosphere has really taken a hit in the past few months. Management needs to learn quickly how to employ competent people and support the "keepers" during this time of transition.
I won't say we will never go back, but I will say, we will no longer be "regulars" until at least the current issues...
Read moreI was looking for a new breakfast spot and landed on Jim's based on the really good reviews (4.4 stars with 1,849 reviews at the time of this posting - pretty impressive)! However, I found the entire experience to be barely average at best.
When I look for a restaurant joint, the most important thing to me is the quality of food. I'm looking for meals that have fresh ingredients and hopefully some unique options. Jim's had a good selection, including menu items with chile verde. However, the quality of food was really 2/5. I ordered the Chile Verde Breakfast Burrito, and the flavor was quite bland - both the burrito and the chile verde sauce. The pork in the chile verde was a bit overcooked and stringy, but mostly, the dish itself was just blase. I also got a side order of biscuits and gravy, and the gravy tasted like what you'd get in a package from the grocery store for $1.00 - nothing special nor unique. My wife ordered the Corn Beef and Hash with Eggs and reported the same thing. The corn beef tasted like it came right out of the can of Hormel corn beef, and the eggs tasted a little rubbery. She got the side of pancakes, but only had a couple bites before calling it quits because the syrup tasted cheap and flavorless. Unfortunately, we walked away without having a single good thing to say about the food - and we really wanted to like it!
The atmosphere was okay - they didn't pack people in like many other breakfast restaurants. As such, there was a little elbow room between diners, and that allowed for a little more private conversations without worrying about hearing four different conversations from neighboring tables. The decor was just okay - it wasn't really inviting, nor was it uninviting. The service was typical - the staff were nice enough. They did their jobs efficiently and with a smile, but without much thought or care.
I wouldn't say the experience was bad, but it certainly wasn't good (specifically the quality of food), so we...
Read moreI used to love this restaurant until I found out I had an autoimmune disease. The treatment of anyone who needs some accommodations is ridiculous. As an example on my last visit I ordered a chicken fajita skillet with only chicken and veggies. No tortilla, cheese, egg, potato, or pancakes with it. I asked for extra veggies. I was given a very meager portion of veggies and a couple slices of chicken with a visibly rotten avocado on top. I had to get a new avocado. Then ordered another chicken fajita plate asking to please add more veggies because what I was given was so small. They brought back the same exact thing. This has happened several times here. When I state I can’t have pancakes or toast but would like veggies I’m told no. They don’t even offer to just charge extra (which would still be ridiculous since I’m not getting the pancakes etc). After my last experience I expressed to the manager my immense frustration and that it was stupid that I had to buy TWO meals at full price to get a half sized meal. They also charged extra for the rotten avocado...The waitress apparently asked the manager about the extra veggies and he shut her down (his own admission). I now absolutely hate this restaurant because again they have done this a few times and not just this location. He didn’t even offer a refund and just kind of shook his head and acted like he didn’t care. I will never ever ever ever ever go here again. No other restaurant I’ve been too has treated me this way. I get that it can be kind of hard when a customer makes special requests however...that’s part of owning a food business and I didn’t ask for anything particularly difficult. That’s what makes me so angry and the manipulation knowing I would need more food than the teeny weeny portion they provided....
