I never tried Rita's, apparently it's a chain, so we decided to give it a try. Being from Brooklyn, Italian Icy was a big thing in the East Coast. We had local shops, to franchises, to street cart vendors selling Italian Ices-I grew up on these. What caught my eye was the "Frozen Custard" part, like what is that! I've heard of Frozen Yogurt, Gelato, but never Frozen Custard; I had to give it a try.
The store is located in conveniently located in a strip mall, among other shopping/food stores. The inside was clean, with enough chairs and tables for customers to relax and enjoy their dessert. The workers were friendly, as they let us sample couple of Italian Ices, and Frozen Custard. As recommended, we tried the Gelati ("A layering of your favorite Italian Ice and creamy Frozen Custard"), as it had both the Italian Ice and Frozen Custard we wanted to try. It was pretty much Italian ice on the bottom of the cup and Frozen Custard on top of it.
After trying couple of samples of the Italian Ice and Frozen Custard, we decided to the Coconut Italian Ice with Mint Chocolate Frozen Custard, and a Black Raspberry Frozen Custard. I'm a big Mint Chocolate fan so I had to try the Frozen Custard of that, and the Coconut and Pina Colada was the only decent tasting Italian Ices. The other Italian Ices tasted off from what they normally would taste like in other places-theses were just more tangy. As for the Frozen Custard, the workers mentioned they were different from other frozen desserts, due to the addition of "Eggs". Likewise, the Frozen Custards were more creamy. But honestly I don't think anyone who isn't a Frozen Dessert connoisseur would taste the difference; they most likely mistake it for some really good and creamy ice cream. Nevertheless, I wasn't disappointed by the Mint Chocolate and Black Raspberry Frozen Custards.
Would definitely recommend anyone who wants to try something different, or if you're in the area to stop by and check it out. I'll definitely be trying out their other desserts (cookies, brownies, waffle cones, etc.)...
Read moreI climbed the Oquirrh Mountains with nothing but faith and dust in my lungs, searching for the promised land I’d seen in a wetdream #JosephSmith.
My feet were blistered, my soul broke twice, but on the other side of the peak there it was, Rita’s in Riverton, glowing like a holy temple of frozen scriptures.
I didn’t even walk in, I collapsed to my knees and prayed, the Holy Ghost whispered, “Gelati…” like it was my secret temple name.
The mango Gelati? That’s the nectar of angels who definitely eat it before a trumpet solo.
But Koolaid Sharkleberry Fin? Mid. Kool-Aid hallucinogenics in a cup, like a clown trying to be serious during a funeral..
Yeah, I still ate it though, because I didn’t hike across a mountain range to get picky.
The spoon stuck to the roof of my mouth and I got a brain freeze, but we conquered Rita’s like pioneers crossing the plains!
And now I tell others, go west, go higher, go weirder… but don’t stop till you taste...
Read moreHey so I actually LOVE Rita’s and the cotton candy is the best flavor of cotton candy hands down. But I got the gummy bear gelati and something was not right.
Something went so wrong. It tastes like literal old moldy musky mop water. In a very literal sense. I’m not being picky. It is not food, something went so wrong I can’t even explain the flavor. It is the worst thing anyone has tried to tell me is food. Like there is absolutely no way this was made correct. No one would eat this. I should have gone back in and asked for a new one.
Plus I think something MUST be wrong with the ingredients or the machine. It isn’t something anyone could stomach. It’ very very wrong. And I’ll switch my review to 5 stars, I just needed to report this?? Because it tastes like it could be toxic or something??
Also the employees are always so sweet. There’s no way it was their fault. Don’t blame them at all. They couldn’t have made something this bad...
