This was a disappointment right from the start. We made 6 o clock reservations and got there right on time. We walked in seconds before another couple. No hostess was there to greet us but looked at the couple behind us and asked how they could help. The couple stated they had a 6:30 reservation and was there early. The hostess immediately sat them. A minute or so later she addressed us and immediately sat us as well. It was apparent they were busy and we were taken to the back of the restaurant just next to the bathroom doors. Not ideal. We were next to a very large party who was In The last 15 minutes or so of their stay. There were little kids running around everywhere and in and out of the bathroom and back to the table in a game of tag. Not what I was expecting at a restaurant but that’s not the restaurants fault. It did contribute to the cheap and tacky environment of the night.
Almost 10 full minutes after we had been seated our waitress came to our table to introduce herself and get our drink orders. Unacceptable . We had had time to review the menu and were ready to order. There was a confusion and she took our drink orders and came back within two minutes to finish our order. We got the tower appetizer as well as two entrees. Another full half an hour later my husband and I almost got up to leave. We were out of water and we still had no food after arriving at the restaurant 45 minutes earlier. We haven’t been out of the house in months and scheduled this date night for a dinner and movie. When I made the reservation I asked the woman who answered the phone how long to plan for dinner. The response was an hour. We allotted 80 minutes to give ourselves plenty of time. It was now apparent there was no way we were going to be able to eat and make our movie. Just as we were about to get up and leave the appetizer arrives. The first bite was cold. The second bite was luke warm. When they came by to check on it and I was over niceties and told them as such. When they asked if we wanted to cancel our entrees here they came right behind them- being delivered within two minutes of the appetizer. Meanwhile it had been so busy our sever was LITERALLY dripping sweat. She had been running all night. My husband scarfed down his entree and said it was delicious. I quickly ate half of mine. We boxed up the appetizer and my meal. The manager, Taylor, came out to apologize for the appetizer and comped it - ( unnecessary but also probably an appropriate course of action) and said she would bring us boxes. We never saw her again. We had to ask our waitress for boxes.
As a fun little tidbit- on our way out we saw the couple who got seated ahead of us engaged in cute conversation whispering and laughing to each other with a to go bag on top of the table. They somehow had been served in a normal timeframe and had time to eat their dinner and box it up in the time we scarfed down half our dinner so we could run to our movie…
It’s clear management reads their reviews so I’d firmly suggest you treat your employees and your patrons better. That poor waitress was doing the best she could but can’t keep up if you’re understaffed and seating people who either don’t have a reservation or were half an hour too early for their reservation. It’s clear most of the employees were doing the best they could but they were in way over their heads. I’d you’re short staffed please only manage what you can. I will absolutely never be back here despite semi decent food.
To others reading the reviews wondering if this is worth the visit- skip it. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area - do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Or, visit on a Tuesday night when it’s...
Read moreToday was my first time. I made reservations for a 3:30 time. That is still considered lunch for their menu, and I would recommend making that reservation.
The staff was friendly and helpful, seating for my group of two was nearly instantaneous. The booth we were brought to had a divider that could extend the table to 8x2, 6x2,4x2 or 1x1. I actually thought that was pretty slick. My wife and I were sat at a 4x2 configuration, which I enjoyed. As a leftie, extra room is always appreciated.
My wife ordered a cocktail - and it was fantastic. Fruity with a punch.
She asked our waitress for wine recommendations with her French Dip sandwich. She obliged but also let us know that she wasn't really a wine expert; so she deferred to the bartender. I've never heard of a rosé being recommended with a beef-heavy entree, and because of this outing, I don't know why. The pairing was beautiful.
I ordered the Cajun Street Tacos. And the amount of food I was served surpassed my expectations. I came hungry. The tacos did not disappoint.
The French Dip was cooked medium-rare. It was juicy and succulent, and the au jus was a broth of delicious. The French fries were tasty, offered an alternate taste and texture to the main dish, and filled the salty flavor profile we craved.
As for the appetizer. Yes - I went in reverse order. The calamari is phenomenal. The deep-fried batter is lighter than you'd expect, in a way I can't compare. Because I've never had anything like it. The fried nature of this dish lends an expectation of heaviness, oil, regret(?). Not true for Wildfin. The aioli and spices rose to the occasion with jalapeño sliced into the mix.
My time at Wildfin was lush, delicious, and new. I browsed their dinner menu (as we'd arrived for lunch), and I'll be visiting again a bit later in the evening.
It really is exciting to see an establishment offering finer-dining experiences outside SLC Proper. Especially with a staff so dedicated to ensuring your meal ushers in the...
Read moreMixed Experience with Overpriced Steak and Lackluster Salmon
Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2 out of 5 stars)
I recently dined this restaurant and unfortunately, my experience was quite underwhelming. While the appetizers were enjoyable and the service from our waitress Carmen was excellent, the main dishes fell short of expectations.
First and foremost, the prices at this restaurant were quite steep considering the quality of the food. I was disappointed to find that the steak I ordered was chewy and not as tender as I had hoped. It lacked the juiciness and flavor that one would expect from a high-end steak. Similarly, the salmon dish I tried was lacking in flavor and was disappointingly cold and dry. The lack of seasoning and moisture left much to be desired.
To add to the disappointment, the beer served to us was warm, which is unacceptable for any establishment claiming to provide a quality dining experience. Warm beer can really detract from the overall enjoyment of a meal and is a basic oversight that should not happen.
Despite these letdowns, I must acknowledge the positive aspect of our experience, which was the appetizers. The appetizers were the highlight of the meal, displaying creative flavors and well-balanced combinations. They were the only aspect of the meal that lived up to our expectations.
Lastly, I would like to commend our waitress, Carmen, for her exceptional service. She was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Her efforts were a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing dining experience.
In conclusion, while the appetizers and the service provided by Carmen were praiseworthy, the overall experience at this restaurant was marred by overpriced dishes, chewy steak, flavorless and cold salmon, and warm beer. I would hesitate to recommend this establishment based on...
