I took my family of five here for dinner to try the new restaurant - we all really liked the food, but about choked on the price! I assumed this place would be comparable to Culver's or In n Out - a higher end burger joint with tastier food than McDonald's, but with shakes! I'm used to paying about $60 for my family at the other restaurants - my bill at Shake Shack was over $90! And we didn't splurge - everyone got a burger, we split two fries, and everyone got a shake - AND we used BOGO coupons on our shakes, so technically we only paid for 3, not 5. It took all I had to hold back a tear of regret at the register!
Now for the food: it was mostly excellent and was cooked fresh and quickly. The order came out in about 5 minutes, but that was probably because we were the only ones in the restaurant on a Sunday (probably because the banks were closed, and most dads couldn't stop to take out a loan to feed their family here). Burgers were all tasty and juicy, although a bit smaller than expected. I had the Hot Chicken, and it was tender and juicy - with a nice level of spice. My wife had the 'Shroom Burger and she liked it well enough, but said it was greasy. The family downed the bacon cheese fries - they were a hit, although the toppings disappeared with the top layer of fries. The milkshakes were really good!! We had a strawberry, a triple chocolate brownie, and Oreo funnel cake - all were exquisite. They were real milkshakes made with milk as compared to most places that serve ice cream in a cup and call it a milkshake. My Oreo was too sweet for me - the sweetness almost overpowered the savory milkshake flavor - they must use a high sugar content ice cream. The only other frustration is that they only have one size, which looks to be around 16 oz. and contains a whopping 1,080 calories! My whole family ended up throwing away half their shakes - too much is just too much. A smaller option (and smaller price!) would be nice. For the record, my meal alone weighed in at a scale tipping 2,500 calories! Oof!
Being a new restaurant, the environment was clean and attractive. The service was top notch, and they even purposely opened the door for us as we approached to come in. However, if I'm going to spend almost $20 per person, I'm not going to be back for fast food - I'll take my family to a much nicer sit...
Read moreThe price of Shake Shack is completely ridiculous for what you get. The food was good, but not in comparison to the price. They also just set my mobile on the counter where I didn't see it, instead of the mobile order shelf which was just annoying. I got a double shack burger, fries, and Oreo shake.
The burger: This is really what was disappointing. The party of this burger tasted really good, and seemed to be high quality, but it was tiny! I paid an extra three dollars for a double despite each individual patty being extremely small. It costs less to add an extra patty at Cubby's (Cubby's does fresh ground sirloin patties that weigh 1/3 a pound each). For the size of patty three dollars is practically theft. The burger also came with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and shack sauce. The cheese was average cheese. The tomato was pretty small and the lettuce didn't feel fresh. The lettuce was a little soggy and, rather than breaking on my teeth, slimed out of the burger on my first bite. The sauce was good. I also expect pickles on my burger, especially when the cost was in the same department as Five Guys where you can add as many toppings as wanted for no extra charge.
The fries were good. Nicely salted and crisp. Nothing amazing, just a good fry.
The shake was also a little disappointing. I enjoyed it alright, but that's it. Shake is literally in the business and the shake was average. It was too runny for my taste, but that's just preference, and it was small for the price.
Overall it was good, but 18 dollars for a meal that was no better than what I can get at Wendy's is extremely...
Read moreHere’s what to know: When you walk in the door you’ll be directed to a kiosk if using a card and to real people if you’re using cash. So don’t expect much help of using a card.
À la carte at a fast food restaurant generally means “we’re charging too much and we’re hiding it with an à la carte menu.” Which is absolutely true if this place. Two people, sandwiches or chicken nuggets, fries and drinks $30+.
Drinks are pricey and you can get refills but you have to go to the counter for them. So most people won’t.
The burger I had was fantastic. The beef patty was exceptionally good.
My wife got chicken nuggets and they should have been a lot better for the price we paid for 6. Yes six.
I’m not exactly sure how they justify the word “shake” in their name. They have about 5 flavors, they’re in a 12oz cup at next, and they’re runny like a McDonald’s shake.
The fries are average. I got the Spicy fries. The spice is hot not flavorful.
Not really a fan of the service, because they’re VERY hands off. Not a fan of the fries, nuggets, or shakes. Definitely a fan of the burger.
Atmosphere, it’s a fast food place and it’s brand new. It was clean, bright, and comfortable.
Value- it’s way to expensive for what you get. Again à la carte is a good way to hide the price you’re about to spend. It’s enough of an issue that I’ll...
