This restaurant has not only the best breakfast in town but also the best customer service. For real, this place makes you happy just by being in here. All the staff is always friendly. Quick service. Good strong coffee. Fresh squizee organ juice. Made from scratch pancakes. Fresh food. Quite small inside, but they always do their best to accommodate people as fast as they can. Outdoor tables when weather permited. One unisex restroom. Quite limited on-site free parking, though next is located a free public parking. And also there is a parkimeter on the street available. No matter what, the kind Owner is always there working hard and treating you like a special guest. This restaurant is my favorite ever! They serve the most tastiest chorizo ever!!! The pancakes are beyond this world. I love the chicken salad croissant.

My wife and I have walked past this place many times and it's always been packed (the interior seating space is tiny!). We finally decided to try it out and we weren't disappointed. I wish I remember the exact name of my dish... though, I think it was a daily special. At any rate, it was some sort of Mexican scramble filled with chorizo, cheese, crunchy tortilla strips, peppers (and more) and it was absolutely delicious! If it's not on their permanent menu, it should be. In lieu of toast, it came with two HUGE pieces of jalapeno cornbread which were perfect for sopping up the little bits of leftover scramble fillings on my plate. We'll definitely be heading back here again.

Came here for breakfast on my first day in Rochester. They had homemade corned beef hash which is one of my favorite types of breakfast so happily ordered it. The food came out pretty quickly and the corned beef hash was good. The corned beef was kind of scrambled slices - not chunks, but definitely not from a can. It was cooked with potato chunks, and some onions (don't remember if there were peppers). Definitely good and would order again, but not up there with the best I've had. Coffee was decent but prefer Paul's nearby. There was plenty of parking and service friend friendly and efficient. Recommended if you're in the area.

The food was flavourless and the kitchen messed up our orders several times. I got the eggs benedict, but instead of bacon i ordered it with corned beef. And the waitress said i could substitute the fruit with hash-browns, so I asked to do that. My food came out with bacon and I told her I ordered corned beef, not bacon because we can not eat bacon. She took my food back to the kitchen and they made me a new plate. My food also never came with the hash-browns when it came out with the bacon. The second time my food came out it came with corned beef and hash-browns. Then my mom ordered the eggs florentine which does not come with pork at all. But when my mom was eating it, she noticed ham. She informed the waitress and she remarked that it was weird because ham does not come with the dish, she took the plate away and removed it off the bill. Then the bill came around and we were charged for an extra benedict which was not ordered. Four meals were ordered total and she charged us for five. We informed her and she removed the benedict. The waitress was nice about everything but it was just mistake after mistake. We will not...

Not a place to go if you are concerned about COVID-19 avoidance!

My wife and I stopped in for brunch. The food was excellent, as usual. However, we were grossly disappointed in their lack of attention to steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The host and wait staff were wearing face masks, but that was the only accommodation we saw. The busser wore a face mask but had it pulled down around his neck. We ate outside on the patio. The setting was very tranquil and nice. Several of the tables were not widely separated. I was surprised to see a basket of open and used condiments on each table. When the two people at the table next to us left, the waitress simply picked up their cash tip from the table and without sanitizing her hands went on to the next table. The next party was seated at the table without any cleaning or sanitizing of the table or chairs, and no cleaning of the condiments basket. While I love the food at the Downtown Cafe, I will wait until the COVID-19 pandemic ends ...

Service was ok at best. Our order was taken and coffee was refilled right before we left. I never got a water, but I’m not sure if there was even room for one on the tiny tables of this place.

I ordered the corned beef hash with poached eggs . The meat was on the dry side, the potatoes were in desperate need of salt and seasoning, and my eggs were beyond over cooked... nearly hard boiled. My friend ordered the same dish, his was the same way. My wife got the Caramel French Toast. She said that was pretty decent, not overly sweet.

Seating is extremely tight. A table for 3 feels entirely cramped.

For the time it takes to be seated here, I expected something more I guess. Customers in line talked about how they’d been coming here for years. Why!? So you can be mashed like sardines with side to side, back to back with strangers and eat over cooked food and be largely ignored by staff, pay, and GTFO?

No thanks. I don’t understand...
